“Split the Law” began with a man named Dodi Khalil (Ayman Samman) getting kidnapped in a taxi.
The scene then shifted to FBI Special Agent Kurt Weller’s (Sullivan Stapleton) apartment, where Jane Doe was going to have dinner with him, his sister, Sarah Weller (Jordana Spiro), and her son. However, in the middle of dinner, after looking at Sarah’s son, Jane began to remember bits and pieces of where she had been taken after she was kidnapped.
The next day, after FBI Assistant Director Bethany Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) and Weller argued about whether or not Jane was truly Taylor Shaw due to the isotopic test results, they were called in by FBI Forensic Science Unit Head Patterson (Ashley Johnson) who sent them to the Municipal Workers Association (MWA). The address for the building was on one of the tattoos, as two gunmen who claimed that they had been fired by the MWA took the entire building hostage. After taking three of the hostages that they had sent to the backroom out, they began shooting hostages, causing the FBI to enter and shoot the two gunmen dead.
They then soon discovered that the backroom was really a CIA black site. It caused CIA Deputy Director Tom Carter (Michael Gaston) to reveal to Mayfair, Weller and FBI Agent Edgar Reade (Rob Brown) that they had been holding a Pakistani asset who had turned on them, named Dodi Khalil, who was also an expert bomb maker.
While they discussed this, Jane, upon reviewing the security footage, realized that the hostage taking had been a smokescreen to extract Dodi.
Later, after interrogating the two other accomplices, it was discovered that Dodi was making a bomb out of nuclear material that was deadly to the human system.
They were all then required to drink a particular pill that would help them not be affected by the cesium radiation if they were close to it, and the entire team listened as a field team breached a building teeming with cesium.
While listening to the team enter the building and discovering the basement teeming with cesium, and which had lots of beds, Jane panicked as she started to remember that she had been taken into a basement full of beds with children all around. However, she calmed down after Weller comforted her.
Afterwards, they discovered a notebook littered with names of deceased, which made them realize that they had been hiding the cesium inside these deceased’s graves.
They then got to the cemetery just in time and engaged in a fire fight with Dodi’s faction, while they tried to get the run with cesium that Dodi was holding. Thankfully, they managed to get it, and Mayfair stopped Carter from shooting Jane.
Afterwards, the FBI had no choice but to give up Dodi to the CIA as Mayfair wouldn’t allow Carter to have Jane for even one day.
Later that night, Jane told Weller that what had happened to her had not been his fault. He then decided not to stay at home after he discovered that Sarah had called his father to come over.
Meanwhile, Carter, who had been trying to exploit one of Weller’s team mates to cooperate with him to find out more about Jane found a willing spy in FBI Agent Tasha Zapata (Aubrey Esparza), who was in it for the money as she owed a lot of money to several people to due to her gambling problem.
According to the promotional video and official press release that was released on Spoiler TV, the next episode, “Cede Your Soul” will see them tracking down the creator of a mobile application called Trakzer, whose logo is tattooed on Jane, and which allows criminals to track down FBI cars in attempts to assassinate several agents.
