Blue Bloods” Season 5 Episode 10 “Sins of the Father” aired last Friday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on CBS. In this episode, Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) investigated a string of murders connected to an adult film studio. Police Officer Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) learned a thing or two about trust as his partner. Police Officer Edit “Eddie” Janko (Vanessa Ray) left no stone unturned after she learned that the wrong man had been arrested in the hit and run that they had been first on the scene on. Meanwhile, after 40 years of searching, former Police Commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) was able to close the books on a cold case as his son, the current Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) recognized the main suspect in the old case.   Read on to learn more about this episode.

Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Detective Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) were getting their hotdogs for lunch. Then they were interrupted by a gunman in a heavy coat and a mask chasing down a man at Dwayne Park. Maria stayed behind and helped the hotdog vendor whose cart was run over by another vehicle in the chaos, while Danny went ahead to chase after the gunman. However, he was too late as the gunman had escaped, and the man that was being chased had died.

Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the New York Police Department, at 1 Police Plaza or “1 PP,” Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) handed out several promotions. He promoted Officer Brentan Miller to a Third Grade Detective, and the Special Assistant to the Police Commissioner, Sidney Gormley (Robert Clohessy) to a Lieutenant. Afterwards, while making the rounds, he thought that he had recognized Detective Miller’s father. He then told Gormley and Detective Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk), his primary aide, to have Mr. Miller detained as discreetly as possible the moment he stepped out of the room.

Police Officer Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and his partner, Officer Edit “Eddie” Janko (Vanessa Ray) were on patrol when a lady stepped out on the road. She told them to help her out as a crowd was trying to beat up the driver who had figured in a hit and run. Jamie and Eddie were able to get the driver, Ted Santiago to safety, and were successful in keeping the angry mob at bay. They then called an ambulance in order to take a look at the young girl, Mia, who had gotten hit.

Meanwhile, Maria and Danny took a look at Curtis Follows, the dead man’s, apartment for clues. Danny deduced that after he had been shot in the groin. He had ran out the fire escape, all the way to the park where he had been killed. They then found some collection notices on a desk. They were able to get some fingerprints off the apartment door, as a neighbor had seen a man. It is likely that the suspect started banging on the door and threatening to kill Follows if he did not pay back the loan. Then  they were able to lift off some usable prints from the door.

Back on the street, the Detective in charge of the case thanked Jamie and Eddie for keeping the crowd under control, and Jamie went to get the ring leader of the angry mob, while Eddie went to interview possible witnesses. According to the Detective, who proceeded to arrest Ted Santiago, he did not know that the girl had been hit until he had circled back around so that he could try to help out. The Detective then told them that she would have him analyzed to see if he was driving under the influence.

Back at headquarters, Gormely interviewed Donald Miller, who admitted that he was really Donald de Carlo. He was  wanted in connection with the shooting of Police Officer Steven Dixon in 1976. However, he said that he had only been chased by Dixon and that he did not shoot Dixon. Former Police Commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) then came into the other room. His son told him that they had finally solved the case that had been handed down for three generations. Henry had been a witness that day. However, inside the interview room, de Carlo insisted that he did not murder Dixon. He also said that if he was a cop killer, then it would not make sense as to why he had encouraged his son to become one.

Meanwhile, after Jamie placed the ringleader of the angry mob in a holding cell, he learned from the detective in charge that they had found that Ted Santiago had been intoxicated when he was driving. They were then interrupted by Eddie. He informed them that a witness had just told her that Ted had not been driving, and had been in the passenger seat — someone else had been driving. Her witness then told her that when the car had come back, it was Ted who had been behind the wheel. This meant that Ted did not hit Mia, but the detective would not listen to her, as Ted had already confessed to it. Eddie was then hurt after learning that Jamie didn’t trust her hunch.

Later that night, Danny and Maria set a trap and were successful in catching Max Murdoch, a known goon for loan sharks. He the admitted to threatening Curtis but told them that porn types like him always pay up. Maria then told Danny that Murdoch’s alibi of assaulting another man during the time of the murder checked out as the masked man had just killed a woman named Alanna Robbins.

At Alanna’s apartment, they were told that she had been killed by a man matching the description of the Dwayne Park murderer. However, the killer had used a different modus operandi as the killer had stabbed Alanna with a hunting knife. Danny found a hunting knife on the rug in the room, and Maria discovered that Alanna was an adult film star for Cinema Kitty Studio, which was located in Chelsea.

Back at the precinct, Jamie tried to calm Eddie down after the detective in charge got upset. It was after Eddie told Ted that she knew that he had not been the one to hit Mia. She then compared Eddie to Jamie, who often went on crusades all the time. However, the only difference between them was that Jamie’s father was the Police Commissioner. Jamie then reminded Eddie that they always needed more evidence, and not just a gut feeling to pursue a case, but Eddie threw that back into his face as they usually pursued cases based on Jamie’s hunches. She then told him that it was time for him to have his turn to learn something as well- to trust her.

At Cinema Kitty Studio, Danny and Maria talked to Kat Holloway. She told them that both Curtis and Allana had worked for them. She then informed them that the only problem they had ever had was with a star named Josie Philips, who had come to New York from Montana. Kat had let her go after she stopped showing up for work because she was too busy partying. She also informed them that around three months ago, Josie had committed suicide by jumping off a building. The police had told her that someone from Montana had called to say that Curtis and Alanna had seduced Josie, but the police never took action on it. This made Danny believe that Josie’s father might be behind the killings in order to avenge his daughter’s death.

The next day, Henry went to his granddaughter’s, Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan’s (Bridget Moynahan) office to go over the details of the case as preparation for the trial. However, Erin became worried as her grandfather got a lot of the details in the report wrong. She expressed her worry to her father because they both knew that he might get unruly if the defense attorney hammers back at him because of his inconsistencies. Because of this, Erin told her father that she was thinking of going for a plea deal.

Meanwhile, Danny and Maria paid a visit to the hotel room of Josie’s parents, Janice and Jerry, who were in the city in order to lay roses on the spot where Josie had died. Jerry wasn’t there as he had gone on a walk. Then Maria was able to discover that Jerry had scribbled an address on the notepad near the phone. The address turned out to be the home of the director of the adult films, who they found dead in his apartment. They also took in Jerry, who surrendered, and confessed to killing Alanna, Curtis, and the director.

At Sunday dinner, Henry started to second guess if he had really seen de Carlo shooting Steven. It was a long time ago and because of the many errors he had gotten when he and Erin had gone over the case. However, they reassured him that regardless, de Carlo still has to pay for what he had done.

The next day, Eddie wondered why Jamie had brought her to a high school. Jamie then revealed that he had followed up and investigated Ted Santiago. They then confronted Ted’s son, Carlos, who had been with his father that day. They had both just come from a meeting in which Carlos was being recruited to join a college baseball team. Jamie had discovered that Ted had been intoxicated that day as the recruiters and him had had a few drinks, which was why Carlos had been driving. However, after Carlos had accidentally hit Mia, Ted had forced his son out of the car so that his chances would not be blown. However, Carlos refused to tell them the truth.

Meanwhile, Danny and Maria were called by their Medical Examiner. He informed them that something was not right about Jerry murdering all three victims, because, based on the stab wounds on Alanna, it seemed like someone shorter, and a female, had done it. They then realized that Janice had murdered Alanna. However, she was nowhere to be found at her hotel room, which made Danny realize that Janice might be going after Kat Holloway.

At Cinema Kitty Studios, Janice managed to stab Kat in the hand and was unsuccessful in killing her as Danny and Maria showed up just in time to stop and arrest her.

Meanwhile, at the Police Commissioner’s office, Frank asked Detective Miller if he would voluntarily agree to wear a wire in order to find out the truth if his father really shot Officer Dixon or not, in order to get the evidence they needed. Despite the heavy burden, Detective Miller agreed, and Henry smiled as Donald de Carlo was finally arrested after 40 years.

Meanwhile, at the precinct, Carlos Santiago came forward and confessed that he was the one who had hit Mia. Eddie then decided to treat Jamie out to a burger as his reward for believing in her.
