“Blue Bloods” Season 5 will air on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on CBS. This article contains spoilers about the upcoming season. Read at your own risk.
“Blue Bloods” is a CBS crime drama that centers on the Reagans, a family of New York cops. The family’s patriarch, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), is the current New York Police Commissioner; while his father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), was the Commissioner before him. Frank’s children are also involved with the police and the law. His daughter Erin (Bridget Monayhan) is an Assistant District Attorney, while his son Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) is a detective on the force. His younger son Jamie (Will Estes) is currently a police officer, and his other son, Joe, who was also a police officer, was killed during an investigation.
The Season 4 finale brought about many changes and problems, which the Reagan clan were able to chart through together. However, the fifth season will also bring some challenges that each member, and the entire family, will have to face.
According to TV Line, there will be some changes higher up in the ranks, as Frank will be looking for someone to appoint to Dino Arbogast’s (John Ventimigla) office, as Arbogast was let go after Frank discovered a tape containing dirty and lewd acts. According to Arbogast, this was due to an ongoing investigation conducted by Erin’s boss, Amanda Harris (Amy Morton), who was collecting evidence in the form of lewd videos to use as blackmail and leverage. Erin ended up filing a complaint against her, as she was keeping an operation or a sting, which involved prostitution, open, just so that she could collect these blackmail videos.
Executive producer Kevin Wade told TV Line that the one who would be filling in Dino’s shoes would be a well-known and well-loved character. However, he has not specified who would that be.
Back at home, Nicky (Sami Gayle) will be faced with problems, as she tries to decide whether she should go to college within New York City or outside of it. Her mom, Erin, however, will be kept busy with problems of her own as she will have to deal with the new interim District Attorney, Robert McCoy, who will be portrayed by Holt McCallany.
In relationship news for the characters of “Blue Bloods,” it does not look like there will be a lot of romance for Jamie, as he and his current partner, Officer Edie Jenko (Vanessa Ray), will be busy strengthening their partnership rather than forging a relationship with each other.
