Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) discovering that they were currently pregnant. After deciding to keep the news under wraps for a while, Booth decided to give coffee to everyone at the crime scene.
Before going to the crime scene where they had to remove remains from an industrial shredder, Dr. Camille “Cam” Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) reminded Dr. Jack Hodgins (TJ Thyne) to invent things at home and not at the laboratory as he kept on breaking expensive laboratory equipment.
At the scene, intern Jessica Warren (Laura Spencer) discovered that their victim was a white male in his thirties, and Cam told them that he had just died recently.
Back at the laboratory, they noticed that Bones was in a very good mood, and discovered that the victim might have worked at a moving company. After Angela Montenegro (Michaela Conlin) asked Bones for a hug, she realized that her friend was pregnant. Afterwards, thanks to the bashed up face that her husband had found, Angela identified the victim as Jeff Dover, a mover at the Oz Storage and Moving Company, who had gotten into a fight with a co-worker who had bank rolled him for a high-stakes poker game in which Jeff had won $28,000.
Meanwhile, Jessica gave Hodgins the idea to create an unbreakable glass beaker, as he kept on breaking and paying for them. They then discovered that the victim had been hit in the head with something cylindrical, and that he had fallen of the wagon, after finding his Gambler’s Anonymous chip. They also discovered that Jeff had probably started gambling after he had escaped alive from a car accident that claimed the lives of his wife and child, and that there were traces of oil on his arm.
They then contacted Jason Samuels (Vito D’Ambrosio), Booth’s bookie, to get into the game that Jeff had been playing at. Much to the dismay of Bones and Booth’s partner, FBI Special Agent Aubrey James (John Boyd), Booth decided to join the game in order to discover if any of the players had murdered Jeff.
Later that night, Booth created an argument with one of players so that he could pair his phone with the security system so that Angela could hack the feed. Afterwards, Bones became worried as Booth had arrived home late with a bigger roll of cash, and because he didn’t call his sponsor.
At the laboratory, they discovered that Jeff had deep cuts on him, and traces of Thai food, which led them to discover that he had gotten cut when he fell down on an aluminum trash can. After discovering wood splinters with tissue on it, they realized that he had died as somebody had jammed something wooden into his throat, and ripped it out.
Because of this, Booth decided to go back in one last time so that he could watch the other players’ reactions, and determine who killed Jeff as he was going to mention that Jeff had been murdered. At the same time, Bones and Aubrey raced against time so that they could pull him away from the game before things got out of hand.
After putting all the evidence together, they discovered that Nate Crowe (Todd Williams), a baseball coach, had killed Jeff so that he could get Jeff’s winnings in order to pay off the mortgage on his house so that he wouldn’t lose it. However, Booth, who had read Bones’ text, was placed in a difficult position as he realized that he, as he had been winning, could win some more. However, he slammed own his badge and arrested Nate.
Later that night, Hodgins, Angela and Jessica celebrated as Hodgins had created a mat that would cause glasses to bounce off of it unharmed.
At home, after Booth cooked for his wife, he ducked out to take a call from his sponsor. However, the caller was Jason, whom Booth had contacted, as he wanted to place a bet on an upcoming sports event.
