Previously on “Bones” (“The Heiress on the Hill” Season 9 Episode 15 air date: Jan. 31, 2014), The Jeffersonians investigated the murder of Lauren Frank, a 26-year-old socialite. Her body was buried in a park and was discovered by a local ranger. As the investigation pushed through, the team discovered more details about the woman’s family, especially her relationship with her stepmother, Katherine (Ana Stojanovic). They suspected that she might be involved in the murder of her stepdaughter. As the episode went on, several discoveries revealed that Frank’s murderer is someone close to her.
Moreover, Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan (Emily Deschanel) have a hanging decision, whether to combine or separate their funds. As for Hodgins (T.J. Thyne), he learned a secret about his family.
According to TV.com, CIA agent Danny Beck (Freddie Prinze Jr.) teamed up with Booth to track an Afghani terrorist after a CIA informant is murdered. Moreover, Brennan and Booth try to foresee what might happen to their family if both of them will be on field.
In an interview with TV Line’s Michael Ausiello, Stephen Nathan, the executive producer of “Bones,” detailed the episode’s plot. He narrated that the episode has two stories, and one of those was about Booth and Brennan’s working relationship issues. He added that they would like to come up with an episode wherein they will reveal Beck and Booth’s friendship and the reasons that kept them apart.
“What kind of a friendship exists when one person’s life is all secrets? And Danny’s got a lot of secrets,” added Nathan in the TV Line report.
ZAP2it also mentioned that “Bones” Season 9 Episode 16 “The Source in the Sludge” featured stories about terrorism, eels, PhD orals exams, chopping up eyeballs and life insurance.
Sari Nazeri, a young refugee from Afghanistan, is the episode’s victim. She was found dead in a trout pond. Her body was in a bag filled with eels. She has a brother named Aziz.
Sari helped the military find Ibrahim, a terrorist leader, who was killed in an airstrike. Brennan, Booth and the rest of the “Bones” gang pieced together the evidence to discover who killed Sari and whether or not Ibrahim is actually dead or is possibly alive.
CIA agent Danny Beck, who is involved with the case, is also Sari’s love and had been having an “illicit relationship.” This made Booth treat him like a prime suspect, until he found evidence that exonerated Beck.
It was discovered that Sari bit her killer in a struggle and she was left to die of dehydration. It turns out that ex-military guard Derek Johansson is the actual killer.
Meanwhile, Brennan a.k.a. “Bones” complained about her high life insurance premiums, but decided in the end that because of her dangerous job involving guns and criminals, she needs it and she relents to paying more for it.
