The last time we saw Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt together in the big screen was when they were shooting their romance in an intense level of action scenes in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” This time around, we shall see them again in a melancholic drama about a couple losing their spark in an Angelina Jolie masterpiece entitled “By the Sea.”
The production has kept information about the upcoming Brangelina movie at a hush-hush, not giving anything out but simply stating that the movie will be starred by the A-list Hollywood couple. From Slash Film, the movie was firstly introduced as an “intimate, character-driven drama.” However, in the recent feature of Entertainment Weekly, creators of “By the Sea” finally released three image stills of the movie as well as its main premise. It has not been confirmed whether Angeline Jolie used Emily Dickenson’s piece as an inspiration to the movie that bore similar title. However, just like Dickenson’s literary piece, “By the Sea” tells the story of a married woman who gets “caught in an undertow of passion and rejuvenation while visiting a seaside village with her husband.”
The plot, according to Entertainment Weekly, is set in the mid-1970s in France. Vanessa (Jolie) is a former dancer, while her husband Roland (Pitt) is an American writer. The couple seemed to be growing apart as they tour the country. As they stay in a seaside town, they find themselves getting close to the locals: a local bar keeper (Niels Arestrup) and a hotel owner (Richard Bohringer).

The real-life couple had just formalized their decade-long relationship when they got married last Aug. 23, 2014, and it seems that they are spending their honeymoon, making this romantic drama happen without any further delays. The couple undertakes the literal beauty of irony as they indulge the high point of their partnership by filming a movie which explores the story of a collapsing marriage.
When asked about her reason for choosing the 70s setting, all-around movie architect Jolie explains to Entertainment Weekly that it was the perfect era which enunciated the absence of distractions in one’s contemporary life. She said that it was not only because of its “colorful and alluring era” rather it was a great age of self discovery because of the way it enabled people to have their focus “to remain squarely on the emotions.”
“By the Sea” serves as the third film that’s helmed by Jolie, following after her debut in the 2011 pic “In the Land of Blood and Honey” and this year’s based on a true story drama, “Unbroken.” She is backed by editor Patricia Rommel, production designer John Hutman, costume designer Ellen Mirojnick and cinematographer Christian Berger. As of late, there are still no possible release dates for the film. It’s currently going through the early production stage as they had just started filming in Malta last Sept. 8, 2014. Nonetheless, it is safe for us to assume that it will be out sometime next year.
