An exciting film is going to hit the row as Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Warner Bros. have teamed up to adapt “Illuminae”, a new YA sci-fi novel from award-winning authors Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Having books brought to life on film is not a new thing, chiefly when it comes to the YA world. From “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” to “Harry Potter” and “The Fault In Our Stars”–young adult novels that perfectly suited big screen adaptation. Read on the article and find out more.
The adaption of “Illuminae” for the big screen and the novel itself by Kaufman and Kristoff will surely be a hit. The book just hit shelves in October, drawing rave reviews for its unique take on the genre and landing immediately on the New York Times Young Adult Hardcover Bestseller list in its first week. It’s vaguely depressing that original scripts are being looked over in favor of developing larger franchises but we hope this particular endeavor will keep the originality in the script. It is reported lately that Plan B partners Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will co produce the venture along with Brad Pitt.
As reported, the intrigue traces the anecdote of a female teenage hacker, Kady and her ex-boyfriend, Ezra,a former fighter pilot. They are battling through a broken relationship while working together, unearthing a conspiracy about an intergalactic war. Set in the year 2575 Kady and Ezra, while no longer together in the romantic sense, are fighting their way to the evacuating fleet, wanting to escape the violence. The narrative has them dealing with an enemy alien race, fighting a dangerous and rogue artificial intelligence, along with attempting to survive a deadly virus.
The novel hit the bookstore shelves on October 20 this year and one reason for its popularity is reportedly its unusual format, where the book is like a dossier of found documents, including instant messages, emails, ship schematics, classified files, and casualty lists.
Well, for these Australian writers, this is not the first time that their work is going for film adaption rather, Kaufman is the acclaimed co-author behind the “Starbound” Trilogy, which is currently being developed by MGM Television. Her writing partner in “Illuminae”, Kristoff, wrote the bestselling “Lotus War” series of fantasy novels. Even this is not a debutant venture towards fictional adaptation for Plan B Entertainment. In the past, they have been involved in a similar adaptation of Leanne Shapton’s novel, “Important Artifacts”, which was in the form of an auction catalog and followed the ups and downs of a relationship.
Brad Pitt’s Plan B has been responsible for some of the best and most interesting films released since the company was founded nearly 15 years ago. The potential of storytelling is their trick to win the situation. As we know, Hollywood likes sequels and that’s something to look forward to—as is the second “Illuminae” novel, because it’s a trilogy. Now, Warner Bros and Brad Pitt are co jointly hunting for suitable writers to adapt the novel.
