According to the “The LEGO Movie” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the sequel “The LEGO Movie 2” will be set in a dystopian future. Read on for more details of the story.
While speaking with AICN (Ain’t It Cool News), “The LEGO Movie” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller who are writing the sequel “The LEGO Movie 2” reveals that the movie will feature Emmett and his sister in a “weird, dystopian version of Bricksburg” which will probably be set four years after the events of the original pic, as both Miller and Lord revealed on earlier reports.
Miller and Lord who directed the original pic has won an Annie for writing the movie and are set to head out to London for next week’s BAFTA awards. There are no confirmations yet if both Miller and Lord will return to direct the sequel.
“The LEGO Movie 2” is one of the three LEGO movies that will be headlining out in the near upcoming years, with “LEGO Ninjago,” heading out first on Sept. 23, 2016. Based on the LEGO kit set and TV show of the same name, “Ninjago” will be set in a very different universe which is far from what was established in “The LEGO Movie.” Charlie Bean is to direct the pic from a script by the Hageman brothers, Dan and Kevin, who also wrote for the cartoon series “LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu” and co-wrote the story for “The LEGO Movie.” Dan Lin and Roy Lee will be joining Lord and Miller as producers as well.
Following “Ninjago” will be “LEGO Batman,” a direct spin-off of the original pic featuring LEGO’s Dark Knight, voiced by Will Arnet, which is set for a 2017 release. Chris McKay, who served as animation supervisor on “The LEGO Movie,” will be directing the film written by Lee, Lin, Lord, Miller and Seth Grahame-Smith.
By 2018, the “The LEGO Movie 2” sequel will head out into theaters. Set four years after the events of the original pic, the sequel will see how the characters from the original film have all grown up, with Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) in an existential crisis of having seen another dimension and questioning the whole point of his existence.
