Brooklyn Nine Nine” Season 2 Episode 6 “Jake and Sophia” aired on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at 8:30 p.m. on FOX. Jake slept with a lovely woman, who turned out to be the lawyer of the burglar he wanted to send to jail. Read on for the recap to this episode.

Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) was officially late. It was past 9:00 a.m., and she’s not in the office yet. What could have happened to her? Jake (Andy Samberg) asked the team to guess, and they all came up with crazy reasons. It was such a fun game that even Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher) joined in. His guess? Amy had a problem at the bank. It was boring, unimaginative and safe. But it was also what actually happened. Capt. Holt always got it right!

Jake and Sgt. Terry (Terry Crews) were having drinks at the bar later that night. They talked about the upcoming trial tomorrow with the diamond heist, and Jake seemed agitated. But it wasn’t about the case, it was more personal. His dating life was not going well, so the sergeant suggested he should talk about nonwork interest while on a date.

Jake: Right. Don't talk about being a cop, just talk about my own interest.

At that exact moment, Jake spotted a woman alone and made his move. Later, they were hitting it off as they shared the same love for spicy chicken wings.

Back in the precinct, another round of union representation was being discussed. Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) and Amy approached Capt. Holt to tell them that they do not like Scully (Joel McKinnon), who has been their rep for the last twelve years. Amy said that despite this, Scully had no idea about pensions and disciplinary guidelines. The captain, however, did not want to get involve because he’s management.

Seeing that Amy was passionate about this, Rosa suggested she should run against Scully, but Amy thought this was career suicide as union reps usually fight with management, and she would like to become part of management one day.

When Scully learned that Amy was running against him, he warned her. But Amy had no idea what he was talking about. Turned out, Rosa went ahead and started a campaign for her. So, Amy marched to the captain’s office again to ask Holt to order Rosa to stop this. They bickered like kids. But, like before, the captain didn’t want to get involved and ordered the both of them out of his office.

In court the next morning, Jake confessed to the sergeant that he had quite a sexy time last night with the woman he met at the bar. But she turned out to be the lawyer for the defense. Sophia Perez (Eva Longoria) was the replacement for the defendant’s original lawyer.

Sgt. Terry: Jake, this is bad! You slept with the defense attorney. You literally slept with the enemy!

In Jake’s defense, they didn't talk about their jobs during their date, so how was he to know? Sophia spotted Jake in the gallery and was surprised to learn he was a cop. Jack was appalled that she’s a lawyer. Apparently, he’s not impressed, as lawyers do not have a moral compass.

Later, in the judge’s chambers, Jake had to tell the judge that he had sexual relations with the defendant’s lawyer. Shouldn’t she recuse herself? Sophia reasoned that the client had no objection to her handling the case, even if she and Jake did have a one-night stand. The judge sided with Sophia.

So, during the trial, it was uncovered by the defense that the police’s witness was actually unreliable, and Sophia made sure that the jury knew of this.  Mad that their case was in trouble, Jake confronted Sophia outside; she knew her client was guilty. But Sophia reasoned that it was her job to make sure that the police would not be able to prove that her client was guilty.

Sophia: Without a credible witness, your case is a mess.

So, in the hopes of making sure that the perpetrator will not be free to roam the streets ever again, Jake asked his team’s help to gather newer and stronger evidence.  They also found out from the sergeant that Jake slept with the defense lawyer.

Jake: I'm gonna win this case and then we can put my horrible sexual experience behind us forever!

Meanwhile, Amy was determined to sabotage Rosa’s campaign for her.  But Holt  finally decided to meddle when he saw that Amy was royally screwing it up. He told her that she would make a good union rep and that she should not be afraid of losing her chances with management. The captain was once a union rep too, and where is he now? So, Amy turned this campaign around and it looked like she was actually going to beat Scully, who was, in fact, really enthusiastic when he heard Amy’s speech.

Back in court, Jake took the witness stand to present new evidence against the diamond burglar. It should’ve nailed him, but the jury decided that the defendant was not guilty. Sophia won, and the criminal will walk free.

Jake was angry, but the sergeant told him that these feelings were actually his growing emotions for Sophia. Why don’t he ask her on another date and see what happens? So he did. Sophia actually agreed to go out with Jake again on the condition that they do not talk about work.

Lastly, the third storyline in this episode involved Charles (Joe Lo Truglio) and Gina (Chelsea Peretti) who were fighting over their unused hotel room. Because they have broken up their causal relationship, they can’t share the reservation anymore. They tried all the tricks they know to have one give it up for the other, so they could enjoy the room solo. But the captain gave them overtime work that night and in their place, Charles gave his reservation to his father, and Gina gave it to her mother. New couple alert!
