“Brooklyn Nine Nine” Season 2 Episode 8 “USPIS” aired on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at 8:30 p.m. on FOX. Jake and Charles were tasked to work with a postal service agent, while Amy made attempted to quit smoking. Find out what happened to the episode in this recap below.
Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) was running the drug task force and enlisted the help of Jake (Andy Samberg) and Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio). They were going to work with someone from USPIS, a postal office federal agency, because the 99th precinct needed their help with this post office key.
Jake and Boyle met Jack Danger (guest star Ed Helms) —- pronounced as “dong-er” as he’s part-Dutch — who told them that the key was from a really old and discontinued mailbox. They checked this mailbox out and found some Giggle Pig stash, which is what the drug dealers deliver. So, this was how the dealers transported their drugs alright. They use the mailbox. They were on to something!
While Jake was looking into the contents of the box, Danger spotted a man approaching, holding the same stash. He was about to make a drop off. They were supposed to chase after this man, but Danger still had the key to the box, tied to a chain that connected to his pants. When he tried running towards the man, he fell to ground. The dealer quickly got away.
Back at the precinct, Danger blamed the snafu on Jake, and the latter couldn’t believe it. In private, he told Rosa that he didn’t like this guy.
Jake: It's not just that Danger's annoying. He ruined the whole operation. The perp got away because he’s the world's biggest tool. No, tool's can be useful. He's the world's smallest tool. I'm the world's biggest tool! God, see what he's doing to me?!
However, Rosa insisted that they needed to see this through. He has to work with Danger until the case was done.
Back at Danger’s office, Jake suggested they should look into people who still have the post office key. Danger actually had five on the database. Jake called them The Fellowship of the Key, which they should investigate. But Danger would not agree, saying that this was a waste of time. They needed to keep watching over the mailboxes. Jake rationalized that their perpetrators may be done with the mailboxes after what happened earlier.
When Danger would not give Jake the list of the fellowship, he took this in secret when Danger briefly left his office. And so, they now had new leads. The first two addresses didn’t check out, but when they got to the third address, Jake recognized the man as the guy who was supposed to be bringing the Giggle Pig stash at the mailbox earlier. They made their arrest.
Back at the precinct, Rosa was upset with Jake. While the made progress by arresting one of the dealers, he did so by going behind Danger’s back. Now, he was taking charge of the whole operation. Rosa’s task force was to get nothing; all of the work down the drain.
Jake: Rosa has every right to be pissed at me. I didn't follow her orders and I messed up her task force.
Wanting to make up to Rosa, Jake and Boyle return to Danger’s office to apologize to him. At first, he wasn’t buying that Jake was sorry, but when the two sat there as Danger discussed USPIS history, he reconsidered and had them back on the case. Besides, he needed their help to crack the codes from the notebooks Jake retrieved when he made the arrest earlier. After a minute of brainstorming, they finally had it — a drug deal was going down, and they were ready for it.
In the end, Rosa’s task force made a huge drug bust, thanks to Jake and Boyle. Danger was also part of the bust, but he hit his head and got knocked down while opening a door. He missed the whole action.
Meanwhile, Amy (Melissa Fumera) was on edge when Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher) told her that she may be working overtime this weekend. Realizing her mistake, she apologized and told the captain, Gina (Chelsea Perretti) and Sgt. Terry (Terry Crews) that she was trying to quit smoking.
Amy: I know I should be able to do this by myself, but maybe it would be great if you guys could keep an eye on me.
Each tried to help, as they have all been addicted to something at one point in their lives. First, Sgt. Terry, who used to be addicted to food, taught Amy how to reset her brain by dunking her head on a tub of ice whenever a craving occurred. When that didn’t work, Capt. Holt, who used to be addicted to gambling at the race tracks, told Amy that exercising helped stop his cravings. When that also didn’t work, Gina, who used to be addicted to shopping, taught her to meditate.
When none of these advices didn't work, Amy decided she will quit quitting smoking.
"Well, how's about we avoid human contact all together and just go check out the box?"
