Caitriona Balfe has recently spoken about her character Claire in “Outlander” as well as the star she plays opposite with, Sam Heughan’s Jamie. Read on for more details.
Balfe described Jamie’s character in the upcoming “Outlander” Season 2 as a 21st-century man living in the 18th century.
“Even though he’s a man of that time, there is something timeless about him and there’s something modern – his willingness to change his viewpoint or learn or be open to new ideas,” Balfe told People Magazine.
Balfe also said that their first meeting was already filled with sparks and she compared it to a patient and a nurse’s relationship, which formed their initial bond. In “Outlander” Season 2, Jaime and Claire have new challenges to face. Jaime’s trauma from the torture and rape he went through in the hands of Black Jack Randall and Claire’s pregnancy.
Balfe said that Claire will use these new obstacles as a mission to help Jaime get over the traumatic incident and at the same time, shifts Jaime’s focus from that into something else, such as their growing family.
Balfe said that somehow she sacrificed herself to help Jaime out, as she is dealing with her pregnancy on her own way. She also admits that “Outlander” Season 2 is a complicated time for Jaime and Claire’s relationship but what’s beautiful is viewers will get to see how their characters will continue to support each other in spite of the difficult time that they are facing.
The “Outlander” actress also commented that Jaime’s character in the show will slowly get better but at nights, his strong facade breaks down and that’s when viewers will see how much he is still suffering and struggling to rise above that traumatic incident.
“Outlander” Season 2 will premiere sometime next year, 2016.
