Nine-year-old Kenny Botting is a huge fan of Captain America. And as he gets treated for his brain tumor, he gets his once-in-a-lifetime chance to actually meet and play with "Captain America" actor Chris Evans.
On Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, Evans visited Christopher’s Haven, in preparation for a special fundraising event dated at Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Fenway Park with Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell and other guests. Christopher’s Haven is a children’s residence center for the recuperating patients of the Mass General Hospital right next door.
As of the moment, Botting is staying in Christopher’s Haven with his mother and sister as he undergoes treatment for his brain tumor. Despite all this, he could hardly hide his shock and glee when Evans called him out during his visit at the center and gave him gifts with his signature. Botting even got to lead Evans to a tour within the center.
Later that day, the two took pictures and even got to play together in a bedroom pillow fort Botting made. It is only in such a rare occasion like this that Captain America eventually found himself tied up to a chair, to the delight of his many fans who took the chance to get a picture with him.
As evidenced by his constant smile all throughout Evans’ visit, Botting was clearly very happy.
“I am more than happy. I just want to say thanks for coming,” he said in an interview with CBS Boston.
“It’s their strength that gives me strength. No matter what hurdles are in my life it’s nothing compared to what these families go through, so any way I can bring a smile it’s worth it,” explained Evans.
