The race for a miniseries has started again, and a lot of networks are scrambling to get their own. HBO has and still is continuing with its tradition of developing its own with an intelligent cast and effective writers. They are hoping that the formula still works with the go signal for the series “Lewis and Clark.” It is a historical serial that is said to be produced by Hollywood heavyweights Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and Edward Norton and will be played by actors Casey Affleck and Matthias Schoenaerts.

The miniseries, which will run for six episodes for one hour, is based on Stephen Ambrose’s book titled “Undaunted Courage,” a story that highlights the story of America and its first meeting with the inhabitants of the Mississippi River. Affleck and Schoenaerts will be playing Lewis and Clark respectively, as the explorers who, with a team, went to search the Louisiana Purchase in the early years of the 19th century. It will also show how they traversed the unknown territory on mission from President Jefferson to deliver a message of sovereignty as they search for the legendary route to the Pacific through water. It will not only focus on the titular character’s achievement, but also show a glimpse of what the expedition’s toll on them on mind and spirit. The series will be directed by John Curran, who also directed “The Painted Veil.” He also wrote the script for the series along with Edward Norton and Michelle Ashford.

The narrative of Lewis and Clark’s journey is sure to be something to watch out for as it will also give perspective to the idealism of early America and the astounding beauty of the continent. The filming for “Lewis and Clark” is set to start this summer.
