“Castle” Season 7 Episode 22 “Dead from New York” aired last Monday, May 4, 2015 at 9:00 PM on ABC. In this episode, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) were called in to investigate the murder of the producer and creator of the hit comedy show “Saturday Night Tonight”. Meanwhile, Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan), who was preparing for the preview night of her first performance back on Broadway in years, began having second doubts about her comeback.  Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began with a pair Saturday Night Tonight (SNT) employees discovering that their boss, Sid Ross, was dead, as his body dropped out of the elevator shaft.

Meanwhile, before Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) were called in to investigate the murder at Saturday Night Tonight, they realized that something strange was going on as Martha Rodgers’ (Susan Sullivan) “forty eight hour first line syndrome”, a ritual she did two days before opening night, was happening even if it was only the preview night that was two days away.

At the SNT studio, Dr. Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) told them that Sid had died between midnight and two in the morning, and had been strangled with his tie. At the studio, they were approached by the head writer of SNT, Liz Bell (Joy Osmanski), who was a big fan of the pair, especially Kate. Afterwards, Gene Vogel (James Eckhouse), the head of Sid’s production company, talked to them and Liz showed them some rehearsal footage in which the temperamental Mickey Franks (Jaleel White), went crazy on set and threatened to kill Sid. They then were informed that Sid had been planning on firing him. They then later found him inside a suit of armor in the costume department, where he attacked Kate, who easily defeated him.

At the precinct, he told them to talk to his lawyer, a sock puppet, but after learning that Sid was dead, dropped the act and told them that he had been trying to convince people that he was crazy so that he could quit the show. He then told them that he had gone to Sid’s office at 9:00 PM but heard him yelling about a deal that was going to happen at midnight.

They then questioned Danny Valentine (Gregory Harrison), who flirted with Kate, as he, Sid and Sid’s ex-wife, Evelyn, were supposed to get some drinks together, however, Sid had cancelled and strangely enough, Sid, who had a driver who could take him anywhere, took the subway.

At the precinct, they discovered that Sid had been planning to sell 49% of the production company to an equity firm, but the terms had already been settled. They then managed to track him to Brooklyn via security camera footage, to an alleyway, where gunshots were fired and Sid had fled from the scene. Detective Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Detective Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) then questioned a homeless man who gave the plate number of a black SUV that drove soon afterwards from that alleyway, that belonged to an ex-convict and former drug kingpin named Kurt Van Zant (Mark Rolston), who had filed a lawsuit against Sid and had lost as he claimed that Sid had cut him out of his cut of the profits of the show, as he had bankrolled the pilot of SNT.

Meanwhile, Castle and Martha talked after Kate noticed that something was wrong with Martha. Martha then admitted that she was afraid of being humiliated on social media, but Castle told her not to give up.

Afterwards, they rushed to the SNT offices after discovering that Van Zant was there, and saw him trying to shove Danny out the window. After questioning him, they discovered that Van Zant was getting a percent out of the sale to the equity firm, and had stuck around near the alleyway as Sid had asked for a gun. He then saw Sid crouch near a dumpster, and later attack the masked man who had come to pick up a green duffel bag that contained $ 4 million, which Ryan discovered that Sid had withdrawn.

After learning that everyone was accounted for, they discovered that Evelyn Ross had gone missing, and that that “deal” at midnight was a ransom delivery. They then managed to rescue her, and in turn, she told them that the man you’re a red and silver ring, and a mask from a sketch two years ago.

Later, they brought in the page, Chad, during Carly Rae Jepsen’s performance, as he wore a red and silver SNT ring, and as the mask had been found in his apartment. However, he told them that he had been set up. Ryan then showed them the company’s financials, which led them to realized that Gene had been embezzling from the company and orchestrated the kidnapping so that he could get back the money as it would be seen in the books during the sale. Kate then arrested him during the model cop sketch.

Back at the precinct, they celebrated the successful preview night of Martha, as everyone loved her performance.
