“Castle” Season 7 Episode 19 “Habeas Corpse” aired last Monday, Mar. 30, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC. In this episode, the team investigated the death of a personal injury lawyer which led to a number of possible suspects, and a potential cover-up the scheme that would make one rich for life. Meanwhile, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), who agreed to fill in as the celebrity guest in the annual talent show, signed himself and Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) up, much to her dismay. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode began with a man being chased by a car, and with him begging for mercy. The next morning, Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) helped Alexis Castle (Molly C. Quinn) review for a law midterm. It made Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) comment that Kate would have made a great Supreme Justice.

As they headed to the crime scene, Castle tried to figure out what Detective Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Detective Javier “Javi” Esposito (Jon Huertas) were going to do for the talent competition. They were then informed that their victim, whom they later recognized as Richie “The Pitbull” Falco (Scott Broderick). He is a personal injury attorney, who had died of blunt force trauma to the head, and discovered that a witness had seen a sports car speeding away from the area.

At Richie’s office, his secretary told them that Richie had been paranoid lately and wasn’t going to work that day.  Based on where they discovered his body, she realized that he was there as the hospital where he got most of his clients was there.

At the morgue, Dr. Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) informed Ryan and Esposito that she had discovered that Richie had been in the countryside, and that based on the marks on his chest, he had been tortured by a tazer before he died.

At the precinct, Captain Victoria Gates (Penny Jerald Johnson) asked Castle to be their celebrity guest for the talent competition since Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t make it. He agreed to join as long as Kate could join him and as long as as he could compete against Ryan and Esposito, much to Kate’s dismay. However, Castle and Esposito kept on upping their bets against each other.

Ryan then interrupted them as he discovered that the former football MVP, Derek “Lightning” Bolt had confronted Richie the night before. Esposito sprained his ankle trying to tackle the MVP when he ran from them.

Bolt then informed them that Richie, who had been his lawyer for a small case of his, hadn’t shown up during an important meeting, had confronted him, and then had dropped him off at a diner for an urgent meeting.

Meanwhile, they discovered that Richie had called his ex-wife, Elise Resner (Meredith Monroe). She had divorced him after he spiraled down while he was working with her at a top corporate firm.

They then brought in Archie “The Savannah Hammer” Bronstein, a rival personal injury lawyer. It was after discovering that Richie’s office had been trashed and that Richie had argued with Hammer at the diner. However, his alibi checked out and revealed that Richie was interested in a client of his, Jody Evans (Brina Palencia), who had been in a car accident.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Esposito discovered that Richie had a bag with ropes, chloroform, rags, alarm schematics, and night vision goggles that belonged to a private investigator named Mike Sampson. He told them that Richie had asked him about the best way to get rid of a body. Afterwards, Kate and Castle saw Ryan and Esposito practicing their routine in the interrogation room.  Then, they headed to the woods, as Tory Ellis (Maya Stojan) had traced Richie’s phone to the woods. There, Kate told Castle that she didn’t want to perform as she wanted to be taken seriously when she became a captain.

Soon afterward, they discovered where the body had been buried, but were then held at gunpoint by a masked man who stole the body bag and tied them up.

Back at the precinct, Gates informed Castle that Kimmel was going to perform again, so he didn’t have to perform. They then discovered that Sampson was the one who had held them up. He also discovered a dummy with three holes near the heart caused by flying metal debris which matched the injuries in Jody.

After learning that Elise had asked Jody about the car that she had been driving, a Modesto car. They discovered that Richie had handled the Modesto Motors accounts. He had started spiraling down after realizing that Modesto had been covering a serious car defect which resulted in several accidents.

However, they discovered later on, thanks to Sampson, who had also trashed Richie’s office. Hammer had paid him to steal the dummy as he knew that Modesto would pay millions to get the dummy back.

After Kate and Castle gave their statements, they discovered that Ryan and Esposito had won the talent competition. Kate realized that Castle had called Kimmel to be the celebrity guest as he had heard her tell his mother that she had stage fright. Later that night, the two did their “shower routine” together, in which they danced and sang a duet.
