“Castle” Season 7 Episode 20 “Sleeper” aired last Monday, Apr. 20, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC. In this episode, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) began an investigation into his two-month long disappearance after having recurring nightmares regarding his time away. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with Richard Castle’s (Nathan Fillion) dream. It started out with him in the boat that he had been found in. Afterward, he saw a trophy, a gun being fired, a man bleeding on the floor and saw his face in a mirror. After he woke up, Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) suggested that Castle see a therapist friend of hers. Those recurring dreams have been happening every night for a week.
At Dr. Burke’s clinic, Castle agreed to be hypnotized so that he could recall his dream. He then recalled the boat and someone who looked familiar greeting him hello. He then saw the trophy, a gun being fired, and that he had camouflage paint on his face, and that he was trying to help the bleeding man. He then realized that they were at the back of a truck, in the jungle and that he was being chased by a blonde man. He then wrote down the plate number. He told the doctor that someone who looked like Chuck Norris had helped them.
However, as Castle believed that these were memories, he asked them to run the license plate, and to try to look around for anyone with that particular tattoo. Tory Ellis (Maya Stojan) then revealed that the plate number was used in the Cheng Mai province in Northern Thailand.
The next morning, Alexis (Molly Quinn) warned Kate that her father was being obsessed with Thailand, as everything somehow fit, for him. Castle then realized that he had won the trophy, a debate championship trophy, with Philip Bartlett, whom he knew from Faircroft Preparatory School. However, after meeting up with him, and after confirming with Faircroft, Castle discovered that he had never shared that trophy with anyone.
After Kate discovered that the license plate that Castle had seen could also have been used in a Chuck Norris movie that he saw, Captain Gates (Penny Jerald Johnson) warned Kate that Castle might just be grasping at straws.
Meanwhile, Detective Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) showed Castle a number of pictures of ex-military men who might have had that tattoo. Castle managed to identify the Chuck Norris look-a-like as Jeff Powers (Mark Siversten). However, when they went to his apartment, they discovered that he had been killed by a gunshot to his head. It was also discovered that he had been tortured for information as his teeth were missing.
They then brought in Amber (Agnes Olech), the stripper that he had been with the night before. He agreed to help them out with a sketch of an army buddy that came by three days ago, who had wanted to surprise him.
Meanwhile, thanks to his next session, Castle realized that his dreams had started. It was after he heard a ringing sound in his ears that was triggered by a news clip regarding taxes. After playing the clip, his head started hurting after catching a glimpse of the man who was chasing them, who was also the man who had talked to Amber.
Thanks to the K9 unit finding the latex gloves the murderer had used while torturing Powers, they identified him as Ilya Golovkin (Max E. Williams). He is a former Russian Special Forces operative turned mercenary and hit man.
Kate and Esposito went back to the apartment. They discovered that Amber had been killed by Golovkin,
Meanwhile, after discovering that Powers went regularly to Sunil’s Café, a Thai restaurant nearby, Castle went to check it put. There he saw the man that was bleeding in his dreams and followed him. As he asked him about the time that he disappeared, the man packed up his things to leave.
It turned out that he was Bilal Kahn (Usman Ally). He had shared the debate trophy with Castle when he came to America in their eleventh grade for a student exchange program. However, Castle didn’t recognize him as they had replaced his memories of him.
It turned out that he had become a high-ranking Al Qaeda officer and made a deal with the CIA to defect in exchange for information. As he couldn’t trust anyone, he asked Castle to be there when he met up with the CIA in Thailand, where he had been hiding, and Powers had been his handler. He then left Castle as soon as his ride came, and Golovkin, who had been about to shoot him, was shot by Henry Jenkins. He told him that they had abducted him as they were pressed for time. Bilal was the only person who knew where and when the rumored major strike on American soil was going to happen. This meant that Castle had saved the world, but couldn’t tell anyone.
In the end, Castle was content that he didn’t know everything, but he now had enough answers as to his mysterious disappearance.
