“Castle” Season 1 Episode 8 “XY” aired last Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on ABC. The premiere episode of the season is the first of a two-part event, in which the events that unfolded during the episode were first seen in the point of view of Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion). In this episode, the happiness and bliss of Richard Castle and the newly minted Captain Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) were rudely interrupted after Beckett suddenly goes missing, causing Detective Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever), Detective Javier “Javi” Esposito (Jon Huertas), Castle, Alexis Castle (Molly C. Quinn) to race against time and to team up with a new ally in order to figure out what is truly going on. Read on to learn more about what exactly happened to Castle and to Beckett in the season premiere of Season 8.
The episode began with a beautiful woman in a bar stabbing a man in a club to death late at night.
The next morning, Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), in order to celebrate her first day as captain, gave Captain Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) a cupcake with a silver bracelet engraved with the word “Always” on it. They were then interrupted by a phone call for Beckett, who told her husband that it was just a telemarketer. She then went off for a meeting at Police Plaza, while Castle went to his newly renovated office.
There, he was surprised to find that his daughter, Alexis Castle (Molly C. Quinn), had been tackling cases on her own, but mellowed down after seeing secret closet and hidden gun compartment in his desk.
He was then invited over to a crime scene at a warehouse by Detective Javier “Javi” Esposito (Jon Huertas), and by Detective Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever), who was beginning to wonder when they would get promoted. It was especially as Captain Victoria Gates (Penny Jerald-Johnson) was the new Deputy Chief, and because he just found out that his wife was pregnant with their second child.
There, Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones) informed them that the dead men, who all had guns, were shot from a balcony, where they discovered that whoever shot them had been hit. Castle then began to fear the worst after discovering Beckett’s bracelet in a pool of her blood.
The boys then managed to locate the apartment that one of the dead gunmen had been staying at. In the process, they ended up bumping into Hayley Shipton (Toks Olagundoye). She turned out to be a private investigator hunting down a hacker who had stolen a bunch of identities which were being used by the team of hitmen in question.
Ryan then discovered that Beckett had patched herself up at a laundry mat, where the East Indian man she had been with complained about being dizzy. Castle mentioned this to Alexis after meeting up with her and Hayley, who agreed to help him out. It made her realize that the man Beckett had been with was diabetic. Thanks to that, Alexis managed to get footage of Beckett stealing insulin, which allowed her to get the number of the taxi Beckett had used.
Meanwhile, Hayley brought Castle to a storage unit full of next generation guns, but were interrupted by the female assassin, who fought with Hayley.
Hayley then left Castle at Winterkill Prison, after Alexis discovered that Beckett had visited Senator William Bracken (Jack Coleman), whom Castle felt was behind everything.
However, Bracken only taunted him, and upon leaving the facility, was kidnapped by the female assassin who brought him to an empty warehouse, where her associate, Brooks (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) tortured Castle for information by putting a bag of tarantulas over his head. However, he managed to break out of his bonds, and ran, only to get cornered. However, Beckett rushed in, and injured the assassin. She then told Castle that she loved him and ran away before Esposito, Ryan, and Alexis, who had managed to track Castle down with Hayley’s help.
At the precinct, the assassin hinted that there was another team out to hunt Beckett down, and got gunned down after opening fire on the entire precinct.
They then discovered that Beckett had been with a low-level analyst named Vikram Singh (Sunkrish Bala). He was connected to her old job in Washington DC, and it was learned that Beckett’s old partner and her team had just all been killed.
The episode ended with Beckett in an apartment with a man, and with a new hit team preparing to enter the building she was at.
