After months of speculation of what Detective Kate Beckett’s (Stana Katic) future, in terms of career choice would be, fans of the long-running ABC crime procedural “Castle” finally got to know whether Beckett will become a Senator or Captain. WARNING: This article may contain spoilers for “Castle” Season 8. Read on to learn more about Kate’s biggest career decision yet. Read on for more details.
At the end of the seventh season of ABC’s “Castle,” Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) was given two big opportunities and took the captain’s exam. After acing it, was told that if she so chose it, then it wouldn’t be long before she would have a precinct at her command.
However, at the same time, she was given the most stressful and tense performance review of her life, which gave her a big surprise. It was because after that interview, she was informed that the entire interview had been a test run, as it was, in truth, an interview for her to become a New York State Senator.
Now, with two big important career decisions in front of her, what did Kate choose?
According to both TV Line and Entertainment Weekly, new showrunners Terrence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley have just announced that Kate will be the new captain of the twelfth precinct. However, this doesn’t mean that Kate will never pursue in politics, but that would probably be in the near future.
According to an interview on TV Line, Winter said that they had realized that they needed to keep Kate in the precinct, as the best way to serve up good episodes of “Castle” is through the different murder cases and mysteries that they solve.
However, this means that the original team of Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), Kate, Detective Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Detective Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) will also change a little, as Kate is now their boss. This move, according to Entertainment Weekly, will also create several little conflicts for Kate and Castle.
Now, with Kate no longer Castle’s trusty partner, the question now is, who will he be partnered up with?
According to Entertainment Weekly, Castle’s new partner in solving mysteries will be Toks Olagundoye’s character, Hayley Shipton, as the change in the name had just been announced as well.
This partnership will also be very interesting to see. Hayley will be coming from a different perspective of things, and will be solving mysteries in a very unorthodox manner. Castle will be the partner who will be more “by the book,”as he is more used to how things run in the twelfth precinct.
However, this doesn’t mean that Kate won’t get her fair share of the action, as she will still be very hands on- she’ll be there during interrogations. It will go on the field, but not as much as before. However, this, according to the showrunners, will allow Kate’s character outside of her professional life to be more explored.
