After several months of hearing news and spoilers regarding the eighth season, twenty days away from the premiere of the upcoming season, ABC, according to TV Line, has finally released a new official trailer for “Castle.” It contains and confirms what fans and viewers have already been teased about, and that contains several interesting surprises that haven’t been teased yet.
The promotional video began with Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) giving Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) a celebratory cupcake in honor of her promotion to captain, and learned, after asking how she was feeling about it, that Kate was nervous but excited.
It was also teased that Castle, as a private investigator, would have a new partner, who is more effective at closing cases than he is- Alexis Castle (Molly C. Quinn).
The narrator then mentioned that the upcoming season will feature more twists than one would ever imagine. It was emphasized with some footage of someone from the forensics department picking up a bloody but printed label that read “Always.”
Afterwards, in another scene, Kate told Castle that she loved him and ran.
Then, shots were exchanged, a scene of a door being kicked in, and Castle wondering what was going on, was shown.
In between all of this, Hayley Shipton (Toks Olagundoye) was briefly shown.
The trailer then ended with Castle, tied to a chair, squirming as a tarantula crawled on his face. He was then threatened by his captors, a man and a woman, that they would kill him if he didn’t tell them where Kate was.
Also, recently, executive producer Alexi Hawley told Entertainment Weekly’s Spoiler Room that this season will also expand and explore more on what really happened to Castle. It was when he suddenly went missing at the beginning of the seventh season.
There was an episode sometime later during the season that tried to explain exactly what had happened, but it looks like that case isn’t closed yet as of now.
According to Hawley, he hopes that this exploration into Castle’s disappearance at the beginning of the seventh season will be able to “tie” several mysteries and lose threads seeded throughout the seven seasons of the show.
