With the rest of the gang in place, it was only a matter of time until “Castle’s” Stana Katic returned on set to begin filming for the upcoming eighth season of ABC’s “Castle,” which will be returning this September. Just in time for the actress to return to the set of the long-running crime procedural, Katic, in a recent interview, dished several details regarding the upcoming season, especially with regards to the main characters, and revealed that she has a brand new role to take on for the show. Katic’s decision to return as Detective Kate Beckett on the long-running ABC crime procedural  came as a relief to fans of the actress and of the show, after they didn’t hear much news about what her decision would be earlier in the spring.

However, the “Sister Cities” actress, finally opened up in an interview with Deadline regarding her decision to stay, regarding what might happen to Kate and Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) in the future, and regarding her brand new role on the show.

First and foremost, it has been announced, on her official Twitter account, that Katic has just returned to work, and has begun filming for the eighth season of “Castle” today. It was also announced on Deadline that aside from portraying Kate, Katic will be taking on the role of a producer for the series, alongside the new showrunners, Terence Winter Paul and Alexi Hawley, whom, she revealed, were the main reasons she stayed on. According to the interview, the newly married actress told Deadline  that she knew that Kate’s character would be safe in the hands of these new showrunners, who, according to her, penned some of the best Kate-centric episodes during the course of the seven seasons of the series.

Katic also felt gratitude towards the show, who allowed her to pursue her career outside of “Castle,” as she had spent the last few months filming the movies “Sister Cities” and “The Rendezvous.”

She also dished some details regarding the eighth season, and teased that Castle’s mythology, such as his mysterious disappearance and “memory loss” will be dealt with, and teased that some of Kate’s mythology, such as her motivations to become a police officer, will also come to light.

She also teased that a lot of changes will occur and said that the new showrunner’s vision of exploring the two main characters further, individually and as a couple will be shown here as well.

With regards to the two-parter season premiere, entitled “XY,”, Katic said that the pair of episodes are literally “brother and sister” episodes. They deal with Kate’s and Castle’s unique individual perspectives on a big event that informs the rest of the season.
