CBS and Alex Kurtzman to Create a New “Star Trek” Series To Premiere in 2017

It seems as if the “Star Trek” franchise, specifically when it comes to the television shows, hasn’t died yet, and is still determined to bring die-hard fans and new fans alike back to space and  back to the final frontier, on intergalactic voyages with a brand new Starfleet crew, as it has just been announced that a new “Star Trek” series is currently in the works. Die-hard Trekkies and new fans of the “Star Trek” franchise alike are getting an unexpected treat as CBS has just announced that a new “Star Trek” television show is currently in the works.


“Star Trek”, a legendary an iconic science fiction franchise, has gained fans all over the world, across several generations of humanity, ever since “Star Trek: The Original Series” aired in 1966, with William Shatner starring as the legendary Starfleet captain, Captain James T. Kirk.

Since then, the franchise has had several television shows, such as “The Next Generation”, which starred the likes of Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton and Brent Spiner; “Deep Space Nine”, which  starred Avery Brooks as the captain of the space station; “Voyager”, which starred Kate Mulgrew as the first female Starfleet commanding officer to be given a television show; and “Enterprise”, which starred “NCIS: New Orleans’” and “Quantum Leap’s” Scott Bakula as Captain Jonathan Archer.

Aside from this, there have been several movies which have spun off from the franchise, including the latest reboot movies. The films are responsible for reviving the popularity of the “Star Trek” franchise today.

It seems as if The Powers That Be have seen that this revival of the “Star Trek” franchise is the ideal timing to create a new series, as CBS has just announced that they will be collaborating with  Alex Kurtzman, who will be the executive producer of the series.


Kurtzman has had a history with working for CBS, and has also been a key figure in producing and helping out with the script with the recent “Star Trek” films, “Star Trek” and “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

According to the press release, the new series will showcase new characters and new planets and worlds, in all of the aspects of the term.

However, in keeping with the “Star Trek” tradition, they hope to continue to use the same themes that have made the “Star Trek” franchise timeless and legendary.

Aside from this, the episodes of the new series, which will premiere on Jan. 2017, will be available to the public, as it will be placed on CBS All-Access, where other episodes of the other shows are currently available.

In other “Star Trek” related news, according to the official website of “Star Trek”, fans of George Takei and of “Star Trek” alike came out of the woodwork to help the actor celebrate his Broadway debut in the musical “Allegiance”, by dressing up in their best “Star Trek” themed costumes, at the actor’s request on Oct. 31, 2015.
