Medical dramas have been around lately. There was “ER.,” all the way until today’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” However, medical dramas, as you know it, will be forever changed as Deadline reports that CBS has ordered an all-new medical series from Legendary Television entitled “Austen’s Razor.” Read on to learn more about this story.
“Austen’s Razor” centers on a bioethics expert who is usually called in to deal with the most extraordinary medical crisis and issues — all which focus on the field of bioethics. The main character, the bioethicist, will be based on bioethics expert Arthur L. Caplan and his many experiences as a bioethicist around the world.
Caplan is one of the world’s authorities in bioethics. He does consultations around the globe and currently works at the New York University Langone Medical Center.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Caplan himself will write for the show, alongside siblings David Klass (“Law and Order: Criminal Intent”) and Perri Klass (“Runaway Virus,” “Golden Hour”), who are no stranger to writing medical-related screenplays.
According to Deadline, it was Perri Klass, a pediatrician and a screenwriter, who was the mastermind behind the project, as she was interested in bioethics. The siblings then met with Caplan, and together, they thought of coming up with a series based on Caplan’s experiences as a bioethicist. They pitched the show to several producers before ending up with their current set of producers.
The show will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Perri, David Klass and Dan McDermott, with Arthur Caplan acting as a consulting producer.
CBS will be partnering up with its sister company, CBS Television Studios, to produce the series alongside Legendary Television, which originally owned the drama.
The series is one of the first that CBS has bought and ordered for the 2014 to 2015 television season. Then again,This is not the first series that CBS has come up with based on an individual. The upcoming drama, “Scorpion,” is also focused on one character — Walter O’ Brien — a genius hacker.
And that’s the latest on the new medical drama, “Austen’s Razor.” For more news and updates on your favorite and upcoming television shows, keep following Movie News Guide (MNG).
