CBS has a new series to offer that will tickle your wildest imaginations through the new sci-fi thriller series “Extant.” What makes this series more interesting is that it stars Halle Berry (Molly Woods) as an astronaut. Yes, folks, you read that right. From Catwoman (“Catwoman”) to Storm (“X-Men”), Berry is now an astronaut. The upcoming series is directed by the one who brought you “Transformers” and “Indiana Jones” to name a few—Steven Spielberg. Some of the cast includes Camryn Manheim (Sam Barton), Pierce Gagnon (Ethan Woods) and Goran Visnjic (John Woods). Read on to learn more about CBS’ “Extant” which premieres on July 9, 2014.
Molly Woods is sent on a space mission for almost a year. When she comes back, she struggles to reconnect her relationship with her son and husband. Not only that, she is also pregnant. Her experiences in space and the “organism” that she has brought home will change the path of human history forever.
In a statement from E! Online, Berry mentioned how she was always looking for a challenging role to play. She described her character Molly Woods as an intelligent and vulnerable woman.
“I’m always on the lookout for amazing roles and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium. For five months a year I’ll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman . . .” said Berry in the E! Online report.
Meanwhile, CBS President Nina Tassler only has good words for the actress, emphasizing how the team dreams of working and collaborating with the woman of so many talents.
“Her talent and ability to immerse herself into every performance has created memorable roles that have resonated with audiences everywhere,” added Tassler in the E! Online article.
Although “Extant” seemed to be a new take for CBS, an “exciting concept” as Tassler referred to it, could this be something like “Rosemary’s Baby”? How do you think Halle Berry and the entire series would fare with so many sci-fi series popping up these days? Judging from the trailer, “Extant” looks very, and we really mean very, promising!
