While “John Wick 2” makes steady progress to bring Keanu Reeves back as the dog-avenging assassin, the makers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are apparently inundated with so much offers that the duo is now going solo for the upcoming film. Read on for more details.
Chad Stahelski is directing “John Wick 2” solo, but Leitch will stay on board as executive-producer. According to Collider, the two stuntmen turned film-makers have been receiving a lot of offers, although the report does not confirm which exact project Leitch is diverting his energies to.
There are currently some rumours that Leitch is actually being brought on board for X-Men spinoff “Gambit,” since its incumbent director Rupert Wyatt left the 20th Century Fox project, but this is all conjecture at this point so we suggest taking it with liberal doses of salt. The duo has also the option of Chris Pratt starrer “Cowboy Ninja Viking,” but no confirmation on that has been available so far (via Screen Rant).
“John Wick 2” is currently in development with Stahelski and Leitch writing a ‘character driven’ story with gorgeous action set pieces. Stahelski said, at a previous interview:
“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character… If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it.”
It is also likely that “John Wick” is going to become a multi-film franchise, with a new distribution deal from Swiss company Ascot and support from Lionsgate. In fact, Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer said, “We see ‘John Wick’ as a multiple-title action franchise.”
