Fans of “Chasing Life” are still ruing over the death of Leo Hendrie but show’s executive producer has given an explanation.
Leo Hendrie, played by Scott Michael Foster, became a fan favorite before he was killed off leaving the fans bitter. But show’s executive producer, Patrick Sean Smith has justified his decision. He said that everyone wanted Leo to get married but that would have been unexpected.
Besides Leo’s killing, one other outcome is that someone has to leave or the marriage dissolves, and for a big and epic relationship it just didn’t feel big and epic, so when we started mulling over Leo dying, it felt creatively a satisfying one and a new direction to take April in that is still organic to our show, Smith said.
Smith has admitted in an interview with Variety that killing Leo was not an easy decision at all. It was a carefully thought subplot and the decision was made final after to and fro during discussions with other executive producers for the show.
As a season 2 spoiler, Smith has revealed that “Chasing Life” season 2 will not feature Leo at all but we might see him in subsequent seasons as flashbacks. Chances of the latter happening are very high. He has said that the episode featuring Leo’s farewell will be a much emotional one.
According to Design&Trend, it will focus on April and how she copes and moves on with her life. The emotional tone will wear down a bit after that episode, but for April it will continue for a while. Apparently, April, played by Italia Ricci, will blame her ex-boyfriend and ex-colleague Dominic, played by Richard Brancatisano, for Leo’s death.
ABC family’s released “Chasing Life” season 2 teaser showed glimpses of April going furious on Dominic and questioning him as to why he attended Leo’s funeral when he didn’t like him.
“Chasing Life” will air Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC Family.
