It seems like the latest planned spin – off on NBC’s “Chicago Fire” is going all steam ahead as Deadline and TV Line have released exclusive reports, and have shared several details on the latest additions to the cast of “Chicago Med”, which is planned to have a one hour backdoor pilot during an episode of it’s mother show- “Chicago Fire”, which has already given birth to another popular show, “Chicago PD”. According to TV Line, one of the first in the lineup of new cast members for the spin-off show, “Chicago Med” is YaYa DaCosta, who will be portraying a nurse named Maggie Seaver, an old friend of “Chicago Fire’s” Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), who will not only become his love interest, but will be a main character in the show. According to TV Line, Maggie knew Severide as they had gone to high school together, and had been friends back then.
YaYa DaCosta is a model, and was a contestant on “America’s Next Top Model”. She also has appeared in several television shows and movies, such as “All My Children”, “Ugly Betty”, “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”, and more recently, she portrayed Whitney Houston in Lifetime TV’s biographical movie about the singer.
According to Deadline, another actress joining the roster of the show is S. Epatha Merkerson, who is no stranger to television shows created by Dick Wolf, as she portrayed Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on “Law & Order” from 1991 all the way to 2010.This time, she will be portraying the lead role, Sharon Goodwin, the hospital’s no nonsense head.
Aside from “Law & Order”, the actress has been on other television shows such as “Pwee-wee’s Playhouse”, “Mann & Machine” and “Here and Now”.
According to Deadline, Markerson’s co-star will be actress Laurie Holden, who will be portraying Dr. Hannah Tramble, a tough ER surgeon with a challenging past and childhood.
Holden is best known for role as Andrea in “The Walking Dead”, and has appeared in various television shows such as “The Shield” and “Major Crimes”.
Last but not least, Deadline reported that actor Oliver Platt will be joining the show as Dr. Daniel Charles, the head of the psychiatric department of the hospital.
The veteran actor has been seen in other television shows and projects, such as “The West Wing”, “Nip/Tuck”, “The Big C”, and “Fargo”.
These talented actors and actresses will be joining actor Nick Gehlfuss, who, as reported earlier by Movie News Guide, will be portraying “Chicago PD”’s Detective Jay Halstead’s (Jesse Lee Soffer) brother, Dr. Ryan Halstead.
According to the reports on Deadline, they will be introduced into the world during the nineteenth episode of the current season of “Chicago Fire”.
