Chloe Grace Moretz is set to star in the upcoming “Little Mermaid” live action film. Read on for more details!
18-year-old actress and model Moretz was chosen to play the title character in Working Title and Universal’s “The Little Mermaid.” According to Variety, Richard Curtis will pen the script for the film. He is among the most successful comedy screenwriters in Britain, but he is also known for writing for romantic comedy films such as “Notting Hill,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love Actually,” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”
It was reported that Working Title’s Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan will be the producers, while Amelia Granger and Liza Chasin will be the executive producers. The ones who will oversee the project for Universal will be Creative Executive Chloe Yellin and Executive Vice President of Production Erik Baiers.
It will be recalled that Director Sofia Coppola left the project earlier this year due to creative differences with the studios. Since this big project is not yet dated, the executives think that it was smarter to take one more pass at the script with a highly reputable writer in order to get the type of talent that they need.
According to sources, Moretz has been the frontrunner for the lead role even when Director Coppola was still attached to the project. Variety reported that the studio still wanted Moretz for the lead role. However, they did not want to make any official announcement until a writer was assigned to pen the final pass at the script.
Moretz recently finished filming “Brain on Fire” and is currently filming “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.” Both films will be released in 2016. She will also appear in “November Criminals” and “The 5th Wave,” which are also set to be released next year. Moretz is repped by T-squared Entertainment, WME, and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern.
