Chris Hemsworth, famous for his portrayal of ‘Thor” had to battle continuous hunger pangs during the process of his slimming down for the portrayal of a shipwrecked sailor in a movie directed by Ron Howard’s “In the Heart of the Sea”
The movie is influenced by a real-life maritime epic that records the incident of a ship drowning in the Pacific Ocean. The disastrous incident took place in the year 1820 and inspired the classic story “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville.
The role in the movie demanded that the actor appeared as skinny as possible. Hemsworth explained that they started the slimming process with a diet amounting to about two thousand calories. After each week, they reduced their intake and towards the last two weeks, the calorie intake was reduced to as little as only 500.
Chris had gone through a terrible time, as his body got inadequate nourishment. This led to the actor going through several mood swings while his actress wife was unable to do anything about it.
The actor admits that it was an ugly experience for him. He went through inconsistent emotions and terrible mood swings. His wife could vouch that most of them were negative.
Although, Chris Hemsworth also insisted that he found some solace, as several of his co-stars such as Paul Anderson, Ben Whishaw, and Cillian Murphy were also going through similar problems.
He indicated that what helped him was that all the actors in the movie were dieting together. It helped in forming a great camaraderie and bond among all of them.
The actor publicized his newly acquired skinny physique for the movie on his Instagram account on November 22, Sunday.
Chris Hemsworth admitted that he liked the movie’s ocean shoot quite a lot but things were difficult when there was a sequence to be shot in a freezing studio in the United Kingdom.
