Actor Chris Hemsworth usually gets assigned with roles that require him to be manly—most of the time, a superhero. Well this instance, an upcoming movie role will have his fans see him in a different light.

Vulture reports that Ron Howard’s upcoming film called “In the Heart of the Sea”, which is based on a true story and enthused “Moby-Dick” author, Herman Melville to write the well-known book.

Chris Hemsworth will play the role of Owen Chase, a sailor who will be lost at sea, after a massive sperm whale jams into their ship, The Essex. Hemsworth and his fellow shipmates must of course try to survive but still, they eventually become emaciated and bearded—like how stranded seafarers tend to be. Hemsworth took to social media to share a photo of his latest weather-beaten look, even joking that he tried the “Lost at Sea” diet.

Many followers would compare him to Tom Hanks’ role in “Cast Away”, wherein he was also stranded in a deserted island. The movie earned Hanks a Best Actor nomination.

According to MTV News, cast members had to appear realistically famished for a portion of the film and since it would be criminal to intentionally starve actors, they have to go on a diet, instead–including the new Spider-Man-to-be, Tom Holland.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth said that the actors were consuming a meager 500 calories DAILY.

Hemsworth shared that members of  the cast who had to go on a diet kind of “of went insane” and weighed themselves every day. He also shared that they felt like supermodels, getting ready for a show and how ridiculous it was because they were all guys but kept talking about their diets, comparing who has lost more weight, and who’s gotten skinnier.

Don’t worry, he still looks like this:
