A new screenwriter has boarded the planned live-action adaptation of Chrononauts. According to reports, Philip Gawthorne (Modern Life is Rubbish) has joined the project and he has already two actors for the lead roles.

Last year, it was reported that the graphic novel created by Mark Millar and Sean Gordon Murphy are getting adapted for the big screen. Chris Morgan of Fate of the Furious, which is currently breaking box office records around the world, is attached to the project as a producer under the banner Chris Morgan Productions.

More recently, Gawthorne, who is a notable screenwriter/playwright has also signed up. On Twitter, he talked about the upcoming movie and revealed that he wants to see Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth as Dr. Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly.

“Re Chrononauts casting – Back before it was a comic my pal at Universal asked me if I could come up with something for Pratt & Hemsworth,” he posted. “This was super-exciting as I love them both & had a short film idea I adapted into Chrononauts. Sean even referenced them in #4’s finale.”

However, the two have yet to officially sign up to the project. Millar clarified that the casting will not push through until the script has been written.

As for fans who think that the lead characters from the comics look exactly like Ryan Gosling and Hugh Jackman, here is what he has to say:

Of course, Pratt and Hemsworth are both parts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe albeit in different movie franchises. While Hemsworth wields the Mjolnir as Thor, the God of Thunder, Pratt is known in the galaxy as Star-Lord, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The two have not appeared together on-screen as of yet, but Pratt already met the Aussie actor while filming Avengers: Infinity War.

In an interview with Fandango, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star revealed his admiration for Hemsworth. The 37-year-old joked that while he loves his wife Anna Farris very much, he might be one of those guys who “also kind of loves Chris Hemsworth a little bit too.”

It would be really fun to see the dynamic between Pratt and Hemsworth on-screen in the Chrononauts movie. They both have already shown their funny sides in their respective superhero movies.

What is Chrononauts?

Chrononauts is a graphic novel that follows Corbin Quinn and Danny Reilly, two scientists and friends who just love to have fun. But things got even more exciting when their research opened the doors for a time-travelling adventure of a lifetime. With the whole world watching, they embark on humanity’s first time-travel experiment. However, when their routine veers off-course, they are left to wander from era-to-era, from ancient Rome to the roaring ’20s. Will they use their new knowledge to help mankind, or will they take advantage of the opportunity and make themselves more powerful?

The synopsis via Amazon promises “a bromance for the ages.” It was published in July 2015 by Image Comics.
