“The Knick” on Cinemax will be on a short break this Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, but the cable channel is wasting no time in giving the period medical drama series a boost. Read on for more details about this news story.
In anticipation of the long weekend, as the United States observes Labor Day, Cinemax is not going to air new episodes of “The Knick” in its usual time slot. Instead, it will run the first three episodes, “Methods and Madness,” “Mr. Paris Shoes” and “The Busy Flea” on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. on HBO, Cinemax’s parent company. The move is to give the new show a boost, allowing a different set of viewers who have yet to discover the series to catch up on the episodes.
The show stars Clive Owen as the skillful surgeon, Dr. John Thackery, who works and heads the surgery department in the Knickerbocker Hospital, a.k.a. the Knick, in New York. Set at the turn of the century in the 1900s, the story revolves around a time when the mortality rate is quite high and doctors like Thackery have to come up with effective methods to save their patients. These methods may very well test the boundaries of medical science at that time.
According to Variety, Cinemax’s decision to run a three-episode marathon may also be pushed by the fact that the show has already been renewed for a second season even before its premiere. Ratings for “The Knick” has drawn average numbers so far, although its audience has been growing since the cable channel has had repeat airings of the episodes during the weekend.
The show’s pilot episode remains available for streaming online for free.
And that’s the latest news about “The Knick” from Cinemax. The show will be taking a break this week, but a marathon of the first three episodes will air on Cinemax’s sister network, HBO, on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. After the Labor Day hiatus, “The Knick” will return to its usual time slot on Fridays with a brand-new episode at 10:00 p.m on Cinemax. Check your cable listing for the encore airing of the episodes thereafter.
