Gaming giants Nintendo has confirmed since last month that the next character up for grabs in their quirky fighting phenomenon “Super Smash Bros. 4” is none other than fan-favorite, spiky-haired Cloud Strife from the Square classic “Final Fantasy VII.” The “Super Smash Bros. 4” direct presentation scheduled on December 15, 2015, is expected to be filled with details on how to get Cloud as a playable character in one of Nintendo’s most-beloved franchises to date, Realty Today reported.
The Super Smash Bros. series of games has always delivered a light-hearted, almost child-like approach to fighting games on the surface whilst hiding the deceptively complex gameplay buried within its working mechanics. What distinguishes it from common fighting games is that while usual fighting games have their roster of characters to perform back flips and shoot fireballs with, the Super Smash Bros. games employ a sort of fourth-wall breaking mashup featuring characters from across a variety of Nintendo franchises and Intellectual Properties, including but not limited to Mario, Princess Peach, Kirby, and Link (from The Legend of Zelda). And it worked: Super Smash Bros. is a hit.
One thing it had going for it was that the game was made for competitive play. Like others before it, “Super Smash Bros. 4” was designed to be played by two (or more) people and now, via downloadable content, fans who missed Ex-SOLDIER Cloud Strife from FFVII no longer has any excuse not to participate in anyone’s Smash Bros. party!
Master Herald reports all that and more, as “Super Smash Bros. 4” fans need not contain their excitement for just Cloud Strife during the announcement. More optimistic fans are expecting one or two more characters to be announced along with Cloud to be featured with the game as DLC.
Although the identities of these characters are yet to be revealed, surely it is one of those things that are worth looking forward to.
