Yvette Nicole Brown has survived the numerous times her  NBC show, “Community,” was supposed to be cancelled. With the series getting another season on Yahoo! Screen, she has also landed a new gig on network television as she joins the cast of “The Odd Couple” reboot for CBS. Read on to learn more about this news story.

First reported on TV Line, the “Community” star will be playing the role of Dina in the comedy series. She is the assistant of Oscar, one of the main characters played by Matthew Perry. Dina is described as someone who is constantly on the phone at work, to make apologies for her boss’ behavior, as Oscar has quite a temper.  She is characterized as someone with a polished and tactful behavior, which are traits that Oscar lack. Dina, however, isn’t perfect, as she is quite forgetful and fails to take done important notes.

The role of Dina was originally set for Sarah Baker, who starred with Perry in the cancelled series “Go On.” Baker was, in fact, already done shooting the pilot for “The Odd Couple” last spring, but left the production in May due to the show taking a different direction. Thus, her spot became open for replacement.

“The Odd Couple,” which begins shooting in the middle of August, is set for a midseason debut. With Brown’s involvement in this series, her commitment to “Community,” which will be running its sixth season on Yahoo! Screen, will reportedly not be in conflict, as filming for the latter will not take place until several months.

Based on a play by Neil Simon, “The Odd Couple” follows two complete opposites, Oscar Madison (Perry) and Felix Unger (Thomas Lennon), who become roommates. The show has been done as a sitcom two times on ABC and once as an animated series.

The show also stars Wendell Pierce and Lindsay Sloane, with Perry also working behind the scenes as executive producer and writer.

So, there you have it, the latest news on “The Odd Couple,” which has filled the role of Dina with “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown. The show will debut on CBS in early 2015.  Be on the lookout for more updates about “The Odd Couple” only here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
