Squirrel Girl and the New Warriors are heading to television soon. This week, Marvel released the list of actors who will bring the superhero ensemble to the small screen some time in 2018.

Television’s New Warrior

Doreen Green a.k.a. Squirrel Girl, was a student who has the capacity to communicate and command squirrels. She was created by Steve Ditko who first appeared in comic book universe in 1992 and has become one of the most formidable superheroes. While her name does not exactly strike fear in the hearts of those who hear it, she was a tough superhero in the comics able to defeat Doctor Doom, M.O.D.O.K., and even Thanos. She considers a squirrel named Tippy Toe her best friend and was, for a while, the babysitter of Danielle, daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.

Marvel has cast Milana Vayntrub for the role of Squirrel Girl. Stranger Things‘ Shannon Purser and Parenthood‘s Mae Whitman were also reportedly in the running before Vayntrub nab the role. Anna Kendrick also previously expressed interest in taking on Squirrel Girl.

Vayntrub is best known for her most recent role, Sloane Sandburg, in NBC’s This Is Us. She also previously appeared in Other Space, Silicon Valley and a number of episodes from College Humor Originals.

Meanwhile, Derek Theler was cast as Craig Hollis a.k.a. Mister Immortal. A skilled athlete, he has an affinity to perform daring and reckless stunts. He, however, always comes back to life. Mister Immortal has the power of immortality and uses his athletic abilities to fight bad guys.

Before landing the coveted Marvel role, Theler was Danny Wheeler in Baby Daddy.

The rest of the team consists of Night Trasher, Speedball, Microbe and Debrii. Night Trasher is Dwayne Taylor, a brilliant but cocky entrepreneur who believes in justice more than anything. Played by Jeremy Tardy, Night Trasher’s combat skills make him a valuable part of the team. Meanwhile, Calum Worthy was cast as Robbie Baldwin or Speedball, a charismatic guy who has the ability to throw kinetic balls of energy.

Microbe is Zack Smith, a hypochondriac who can communicate with germs in order to track his opponents. He will be portrayed by Matthew Moy on the upcoming series. Finally, Kate Comer will play the role of Deborah Fields or Debrii, a witty and confident lesbian who is a low-level telekinetic. Fans should not underestimate her because, in time, her powers are bound to get a lot stronger.
