The Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA announced the 30th Film Independent Spirit Award nominations on Nov. 25, 2014 in Los Angeles. Film Independent President Josh Welsh spearheaded the press conference held at the W Hollywood.  Actors Rosario Dawson and Diego Luna presented the nominations. Fox Searchlight’s “Birdman” leads the 30th Film Independent Spirit Award nominations with six nods — Best Actor for Michael Keaton, Best Director for Alejandro G. Inarritu, Best Supporting Actress for Emma Stone, Best Supporting Actor for Edward Norton and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki. Five nominations were given to films such as "Boyhood," "Nightcrawler" and "Selma." 

Founded in 1984, the Independent Spirit Awards was originally known as the FINDIE or Friends of Independents Awards.  It was dedicated to independent filmmakers. Winners were typically presented with acrylic glass pyramids containing suspended shoestrings representing the paltry budgets of independent films.  The show has been broadcast on the Bravo network and Independent Film Channel.

The ceremony will be held at the Spirit Awards on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, as a daytime luncheon in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. The show will broadcast live exclusively on IFC at 2:00 p.m. PT/ 5:00 p.m. ET.
