In this episode, Dr. John Ellison (Jason O’ Mara) went with Darius (Chris Chalk) and CJ (Conphidance) in order to collect enough money to pay a doctor that Nurse Gretchen Polk (Jessica Szohr) knew in order to take care of little Antoine Tyler (Jaiden Byrd) quietly. Meanwhile, Gretchen dealt with her half-sister, who came back into her life again, and Samantha Ellison (Beth Riesgraf) dealt with several personal and familial issues. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a flashback to six months prior. Dr. John Ellison (Jason O’Mara) argued with his wife, Samantha “Sam” Ellison (Beth Riesgraf). She felt alone as her husband worked the night shift, leaving her alone to go to support group and to deal with the grief of boxing away their deceased daughter’s things. It was then shown that Sam had met Assistant District Attorney Kyle Hawkins (Tim Peper). He had been mourning his late wife, and began seeing each other some time after that.
Back at the present, things picked up where it left off. Nurse Gretchen Polk (Jessica Szohr) refused to help Ellison, but decided against it. Dr. Bridget O’ Neil (Lauren Stamile) was demanding for answers regarding the mix up at Ansley Surgical Center. It would cost them both and Antoine Tyler (Jaiden Byrd) dearly. She then agreed, provided that Ellison would be able to find the money for it.
Right after, he and Doctor Quentin Harper (RonReaco Lee) treated a college girl who took heroin and cocaine, and who had fallen into some barbed wires. Outside, while talking to the girl’s friend, Mandy (Bailey Borders), Ellison noticed that she was showing signs of an illness that affected the heart due to using dirty needles when taking drugs. However, after securing a bed for her, he discovered, upon returning, that she had gone. While he looked for her, he began to have flashbacks of little Rebecca “Becky” Ellison.
Meanwhile, Kyle went to Sam to give her the file regarding the Antoine Tyler case. He invited her to have a drink or two with him so that they could become friends again.
Later that day, Gretchen discovered that Ingrid Meyers (Tiffany Boone), her younger half-sister, had been kicked out of a rehabilitation clinic because she hadn’t been able to pay the bills. Because of this, after talking to a cosmetic surgeon whom she had worked with once, she increased the fee for Antoine staying at the cosmetic clinic from twenty-five thousand dollars to thirty-five thousand dollars.
Later that night, at a work related dinner party of Sam’s, one of the senior partners, Keith Anderson (Randall Newsome) told Ellison regarding a paper that he had read that likened violence to an infectious disease, and that the carriers were those who lived in violent neighborhoods, like Antoine. This made Ellison lose his temper. Later that night, back at home, he apologized to his wife for his behavior.
The next morning, Ellison went to Darius (Chris Chalk) regarding the financial situation. Because of this, they took him to an apartment, where they emptied the safe and the pockets of a particular crew. However, as their leader had been a little bit uncooperative, Darius beat him up. It was until Ellison stopped him as the other man was already seizing. They then put an anonymous tip to 911 so that he could be brought in to the hospital so that he could be given medical attention.
The next day, Sam went to Kyle’s house. She told him that they couldn’t go out as she knew that another affair would start if they did.
Gretchen then got Antoine safely to the cosmetic clinic and told her younger sister that she wanted her to get better. It was why they were going back to the rehabilitation clinic straight away.
Back at Samaritan Hospital, Mandy returned as she hadn’t felt well that morning, and received the proper treatment. Afterwards, Ellison apologized to Bridget for the mix-up and told her that that patient, Malcolm Akers, had just been discharged.
Back at home, he apologized to Sam for being distant, and for not grieving the loss of their daughter. The two then reconciled and slept with each other.
Meanwhile, at the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant, CJ (Conphidance) and his brother were shot dead by a Latina woman.
