The Conjuring 3 has not received a greenlight from New Line Cinema. But as early as now, director James Wan teased what to expect for the next Conjuring movie. Screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes have also expressed their interest to work on a story for another sequel.
Ed and Lorraine Warren have several notable investigations other than Anabelle and the Enfield Poltergeist. We will not be surprised if there will be a few more chapters or spinoffs on the way. Among all these cases, Wan hinted that he wants to explore the Warrens’ book on werewolves.
However, Wan will no longer direct the movie because he has to work on Aquaman. The potential sequel could take on a different direction, depending on the management and the new helmer.
The latest speculation suggests that The Conjuring 3 will be about “The Smurl Haunting.” The theory started when The Conjuring’s official Facebook page announced that Conjuring 2 is coming to Blu-Ray and HD.
The announcement comes with a picture of the demon nun Valak with the line “Welcome Home.” One fan asked if it hints that the third movie will be about Warren’s investigation on the Smurls.
The story revolves around the Smurl family’s home in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. A demon allegedly inhabited Jack and Janet Smurl’s house from 1974 to 1989, Decoded Past notes. The family experience strange things for more than a decade, like drawers opening and closing by themselves and TV bursting to flame.
Could Valak return from hell to haunt in The Conjuring 3? In the latest movie, it was seen that Lorraine stopped Valak by saying its real name. It might come back in another form. Valak can be a crooked man, a demon nun, or maybe in its real appearance —a small boy with angel wings.
