Console Holiday Updates: ‘Black Ops 3 Awakening, ‘GTA 5’ Expansion And Distributed DoS Attacks?

The holidays have proven to be an eventful season for Xbox and PlayStation 4 owners, as reports of updates have not been scarce — there had been news of a new installment for the zombie saga coming to “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3,” a “GTA 5” expansion, and, on the more technical side, a stern warning to gamers about a possible DDoS attack.

International Business Times reports that there may well be a “Grand Theft Auto 5” expansion coming this December, with places based off of Liberty City locale.

There has also been news of changes and improvements in the form of the “Lowriders 2.0” and “Festive Surprise 3.0” DLCs, plus a leaked text file pertaining to the release of the “Executives and Other Criminals” DLC.

They further speculated that while the online component of “GTA 5” overshadows its single-player mode, they believe that the Liberty City DLC / Expansion may make gamers invest in several more hours of single-player game time.

Meanwhile, Express has stated that a new trailer has been released for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” and its latest installment to the Zombie saga: “Awakening.” The DLC is set to arrive on the PlayStation 4 first and will include four maps for multiplayer — Rise, Gauntlet, Splash, and Skyjacked.

Another map dubbed the “Iron Dragon” will reportedly be set in Hohenwerfen Castle, Austria; this one will also be released first for the PlayStation 4, as there is a content deal in effect between Sony and Activision with regards to DLC. They also added that the trailer didn’t actually provide new nor significant information with regards to the “Awakening’”s actual content, instead opting to show scenes that set the game for another one of its darker outings.

Xbox Live also issued a warning regarding Distributed Denial of Service (or DDoS) attacks during the holiday season. Users of Xbox Live may remember last year’s incident regarding a large-scale outage perpetrated  by a group calling themselves the Lizard Squad. It is a similar event may occur, but this time from a group calling themselves the Phantom Squad.

All in all, while news of service disruptions is still in the air, the upcoming updates for the mentioned games and systems might well make up for the hassles and inconveniences that may take place.
