Comic book fans are on a roll during the 2014 May Sweeps because another beloved comic book character will have its own TV series! “Constantine” has been officially announced by NBC for a season order and the network also released the official teaser trailer for the upcoming show. Check out the “Constantine” teaser trailer for a first look at NBC’s newest comic book adaptation TV series.

“Constantine” will reportedly join the roster of upcoming comic book adaptation for television that were given season orders this year including FOX’s “Gotham” and The CW’s “Flash.”

Deadline reported that Warner Bros. Television and DC Comics headed the production of the said comic book to TV adaptation. It was also announced that it would be penned and executive produced by David S. Goyer and The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone.

It is written/executive produced by “The Mentalist” executive producers Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer, the go-to writer for Warner Bros.’ feature DC adaptations.

“Constantine” is based on the “Hellblazer” comic series created by Alan Moore (“Watchmen”) from DC Comics in which the antihero named John Constantine appeared as the lead. “Constantine” first appeared in another comic book entitled “Swamp Thing” in 1985 before it got its own comic book series in 1988.

In 2005, “Constantine” was portrayed in a film adaptation featuring a star-studded cast including Keanu Reeves (Constantine), Rachel Weisz (Angela/Isabel), Shia LaBeouf (Chas Kramer), Tilda Swinton (Archangel Gabriel), Djimon Hounsou (Papa Midnite) and Gavin Rossdale (Balthazar).

Matt Ryan of “Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior” has been tapped to play John Constantine in the upcoming TV series. A blog named Bleeding Cool also reported that the Welsh actor will work with director Neil Marshall on the pilot episode. Plus, it was announced that his main rival in the series would be Papa Midnite.

On the other hand, Deadline reported in another article that Lucy Griffiths of “True Blood” will be the lead female in the series, who will be helped by “Constantine” when she would be targeted by demons. She will play the role of Liv, the daughter of Constantine’s old friend, who also has a uniquel ability to distinguish supernatural beings among humans. She will work alongside Ryan’s character in saving others and knowing more about her father.

Other cast members include Harold Perrineau (“Lost”) and Charles Halford (“True Detective”). Perrineau will play an authoritative angel named Manny who will be assigned to Constantine while Halford will portray the role of Chas, Constantine’s closest acquaintance.

In an interview with I Am Rogue, “Constantine” pilot writer and producer David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel”) shared that the TV series is closely similar to the comic book and will feature several other DC characters. He also hinted that it might have a similar approach on introducing characters just like in “Arrow.”

The comic book and movie versions of “Constantine” were fond of smoking cigarettes. Goyer noted that one of “Constantine’s” trademarks is still under negotiations especially if frequent smoking is perceived to be “tricky” to be portrayed in TV.

Deadline released the draft schedule of NBC shows for the 2014-2015 season including “Constantine.” It was stated that the show is scheduled to air at 10:00 p.m. after “Dateline NBC” and “Grimm” every FRIDAY nights.
