Monteith played the character Finn Hudson on the TV hit on Fox and was found dead Saturday at the Pacific Rim Hotel in the center of Vancouver.
Authorities said the cause of death was still uncertain, but foul play had been ruled out. Monteith starred in the musical comedy since 2009, when it debuted. In April, he had been treated for drug addiction and has a history of problems with substance abuse.
The hotel staff located his body after he did not check out at midday on Saturday. When his body was located, he has been dead for a number of hours.
Early Saturday morning, Monteith had returned to his room after being out with his friends earlier that evening. Monteith, born in Calgary, checked into the hotel on July 6.
Police said they would not discuss anything they may have found inside the actor’s room when they found his body. The Coroner for Vancouver said not much information was available as to the actor’s cause of death, but an autopsy was scheduled for sometime during the day on Monday.
On Twitter, Monteith said he was Canadian, awkward, tall, an actor and a drummer.
At the age of 19, Monteith had been treated for drug abuse and was open about battling against addiction. He told one interviewer that he had taken anything and everything.
Monteith played the star quarterback in Glee and risked being alienated when he joined the singing club on the show.
