Costume Designers Guild Awards: ‘Birdman’, ‘Boyhood’, ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ Among Nominees [WATCH VIDEO]

The Costume Designers Guild, which was founded in 1953 by a group of 30 motion picture costume designers, has announced the nominees in seven costume design categories and three additional honorees. The 17th annual ceremony, which honors costume design excellence in film, television and commercials, is set to take on place on Feb. 17, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Inherent Vice,” “Selma” are nominated by costume designers.  Other nominees include “Birdman,” “The Imitation Game” and “The Theory of Everything.” The guild chooses nominees in three separate categories: Excellence in Contemporary Film, Excellence in Period Film and Excellence in Fantasy Film. Three or four of the films nominated by CDG will go on to receive Oscar nominees for Best Costume Design.

Special honorees include producer, director and screenwriter Richard Linklater will receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award in acknowledgment of his support of Costume Design and creative alliance with Costume Designers. He recently collaborated with costume designer Kari Perkins on “Boyhood.”

An Honorary Career Achievement Award will be presented to Costume Designer Aggie Guerard Rodgers for her outstanding work in film.

The 2015 Edith Head Award for the Advancement of the Art of Costume Design will be presented to costume designer, scholar and two-term CDG past president, Dr. Deborah Nadoolman Landis. She is a CDG member and costume design activist for four decades.

The LACOSTE Spotlight Award honoree will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
