It seems gamers are in for a nostalgia roll as Activision is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Crash Bandicoot franchise with remastered releases of its first three games on the PlayStation 4.
The first three Crash games coming to the PlayStation console will be Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back and Warped. They will launch as a set for the PlayStation 4 next year.
The remastered releases will be headed by Activision and the Vicarious Visions, the team in charge of Skylanders.
Sony Entertainment has now teased more about new titles arriving for PlayStation fans, especially when PlayStation Europe chief Jim Ryan was asked if there are new Crash Bandicoot games in the future.
He only affirms gamers watching his YouTube interview that more will be coming in the future.
Crash Bandicoot will also appear in Skylanders Imaginators, which will be out this year.
Skylanders Imaginators is the newest game in the franchise, this time allowing players to create their own Skylanders, called Imaginators, using a plethora of customization options. Characters this way can be played in any of the consoles where the game will be released. Players will also be able to play any of the 300+ character toys from the previous games.
Meanwhile, Crash Bandicoot is a classic video game first released in 1996 which then spawned multiple releases in its wake. Set on the fictional Wumpa Islands, Crash Bandicoot details the adventures of the titular character across various locations.
The original Crash Bandicoot game is about the character’s creation at the hands of the evil Doctor Neo Cortex. Crash will have to stop Cortex and his sidekick Doctor Nitrus Brio’s plans on world domination while at the same time saving his girlfriend Tawna.
Its sequel, Cortex Strikes Back, has Cortex abduct Crash to “save the world.” Crash is joined by his sister Coco Bandicoot, who is suspicious of Cortex’s true intentions, and Brio who tries to convince Crash to gather Gems instead of Crystals instead.
Lastly, Warped takes place in an abandoned space station that crashes on Earth and releases Uka Uka, Aku Aku’s evil brother. He joins Cortex and Doctor Nefarious Tropy to gather Crystals across time and enslave the world.
Crash Bandicoot as a franchise is appreciated for its graphics and unique visuals, but was criticized for its lack of innovation as a platformer. However, it did become of the best-selling PlayStation titles of all time.
