“Criminal Minds” season 11 spoilers revealed that Aisha Tyler has signed on for a recurring role on the CBS series following Jennifer Love Hewitt’s departure.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Aisha Tyler will play the role of Dr. Tara Lewis a “a psychologist with an eye on forensic psychology and its application toward the criminal justice system.” It was said that Tyler’s addition came in view of Jennifer Love Hewitt and A.J. Cook’s departure.
The website reported that in the premiere episode, viewers will see Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) interview several candidates for Kate’s (Hewitt) position.
Although it is still unclear as to whether A.J. and Jennifer could be returning to the series soon, showrunner Erica Messer explained that they wanted to keep their doors open for the two actresses.
“One of the great things about our show is you can leave those doors open. We rarely kill anyone. That opportunity for paths to cross again is definitely open,” Messer told Entertainment Weekly.
She mentioned that they were not actively looking for a replacement but merely wanted to “have fun” by introducing some guest stars. She added that the writers are always on the look out for good opportunities to bring in new characters that would “shake things up a bit.”
Messer added that they put great importance on keeping the series fresh and interesting while still making it look realistic.
“It’s way more realistic for, after 10 years, people to have moved on or moved into a different division or something like that. It’s such a rare thing to be in the same FBI unit for all those years.”
