In the two-part Season 9 finale of “Criminal Minds,” Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) and Morgan (Shemar Moore) were shot. While recovering in the hospital, a fake nurse tried to kill Reid. Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) saved his life. Meanwhile, we saw Alex Blake (Jeanne Triplehorn) on the plane, leaving for good. Come Oct. 1, 2014, the upcoming season will premiere, and it will pick up on where the events of Season 9 left off. Read on to learn more about “Criminal Minds” Season 10.

According to TV Line, Jennifer Love Hewitt is joining the team as Kate Callahan. Executive producer Erica Messer mentioned that the viewers will see Hewitt in a different light this time.

“You see her doing something you don’t see our team ever doing,” stated Messer on TV Line. She further explained that Hewitt’s role will entail pretending “to like a criminal.”

Moreover, Season 10 will pick up from where Season 9 left off. It will explore on how the finale shooting with Reid and Garcia affected them. It will also focus on updates between JJ (A.J. Cook) and Rossi (Joe Mantegna).

“We need to figure out a few things with Morgan’s girlfriend [Savannah] and Hotch’s girlfriend [Beth] and see how we’ll explore those stories this year,” explained Messer.

Messer added that in Episode 3, the team will be faced with a massive casualty that they have never encountered in 10 years.

In addition, TV Line has reported that Alicia Coppola (“Jericho”) was tapped to join the upcoming season of “Criminal Minds.” She will play the role of Morgellons syndrome support group head Lisa Randall. Her character is described as someone who will do everything to protect her group member’s privacy. Kerr Smith is also set to join the show as the body-part collector Frank Cowles.
