Dakota Johnson was featured in Elle magazine for Women in Hollywood issue and during her interview, she told the magazine that she needed to make her character in “Fifty Shades of Grey” a funny one.
According to Johnson, her character needs to be relatable and simply biting her lips and showing Anastasia’s naughty side cannot do the trick so she needs to be funny, Anastasia Steele needs to know what humor is!
“I needed Anastasia to be funny. If you can’t laugh during a movie like that, you’re f*cked. Literally. You need to have something that everyone can relate to.”
Luckily, Johnson knows how to play with her timid character in “Fifty Shades” and she successfully made Anastasia a girl that everyone can relate to.
Moreover, Vanity Fair said that Johnson is not a first timer in giving laughter to her fans as she already showed her humorous side in her 2012 movie, “The Five Year Engagement” alongside with Jason Segel.
She once ad-libbed a breakup scene with her costar by “thinking about a girl who is pretty vapid. What would matter to her? I said something about wearing his Crocs.”
“Fifty Shades Darker” director Sam Taylor-Johnson opened up a little bit about casting Johnson as Anastasia.
The directed told Elle magazine that the character Johnson is portraying “had to be a sense of wide-eyed, excitable curiosity, but grounded in a worldliness.”
He went on by saying, “She had to have an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest of moments. I knew straightaway that Dakota was the girl.”
Moving on, Dakota Johnson is set to reprise her role as Christian Grey’s love interest, Anastasia Steele, in the upcoming second installment of E.L James erotic novel turned to movie “Fifty Shades Darker” that is set to be released in 2017.
