“Dance Moms” Season 5 Episode 7 “Wild Wild West Coast Part 1” aired last Feb. 17, 2015 at 9:00 p.m. on Lifetime. The episode kicks off with Abby Lee Miller telling the girls at the studio that their key player, Maddie Ziegler, is missing. Read on to know more about what she says to the girls.
Abby explains that Maddie is currently on set of Disney’s “Austin & Alley” for guesting. To compensate for Maddie’s absence, Abby welcomes two girls to perform with Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) for the week. Sarah and Brynn with their mothers, Tracey and Ashlee, enter the studio. Kira Girard cannot believe that her rivals from her previous studio in Arizona are welcomed by Abby.
For the pyramid, Nia Frazier is the first one at the bottom because of the conflict last week between dance mom Holly Frazier and Abby. Next is JoJo Siwa because of her last week’s fifth place title. Abby tells her that she also acts like a five-year-old.
Jessalynn Siwa interrupts and says that her daughter did a great job. She tells Abby that she would not let her child watch a horror movie just to internalize a scary character. Abby tells JoJo that if she is good, she does not need ALDC anymore. She gets JoJo’s photo from the pyramid. Jessalynn demands her to put the photo back up. Abby yells at Jessalynn that JoJo deserves nothing. JoJo starts to tear up. Abby threatens her once she starts crying. JoJo says that if Abby keeps yelling, she is really going to cry. Abby demands the Siwas to go out. Jessalynn announces that they are going home pronto.
Abby thinks it is waste for Jessalynn to attack her because she has secretly prepared a role and a costume for JoJo. She decides to not give JoJo the role. Outside, JoJo tells her mom that she wants to stay but not with Abby’s rudeness. Jessalynn calmly tells her that she was sent out because she answered back to Abby. JoJo asks sarcastically if Abby was afraid of a little girl. She is confident that other girls would cry easily if Abby yells at them. Jessalynn does not want to cut connection with Abby because of the great opportunity. She tells JoJo to apologize.
Back in the studio, Maddie is above Mackenzie Ziegler. She was the leader in the group routine. Another dancer in the second level of the pyramid is Kalani Hilliker. Abby commends her in the group dance. On the topmost part of the pyramid is Kendall Vertes because of her second place solo title. Abby is about to explain why when the Siwas return. JoJo apologizes that she did not watch the movie. Abby directly accepts it.
Abby proceeds to get the photos from the pyramid. However, Jill Vertes interrupts because Abby was not able to explain why Kendall is on top. Abby congratulates Kendall, but she emphasizes that she was not number one. She explains that the group is heading to Starbound National Talent Competition in Fallbrook, California. What Holly worries about is Nia not getting a solo in their last week in Los Angeles.
Abby talks business. She explains that she wants to celebrate some of the most famous feuds in history. Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding will be played by Kalani and Sarah. Mackenzie and JoJo will be paired for the Lucy-Ethel duo. Jill finds it unfair that Kendall and Nia are not given a duet. Abby’s other twist is creating two small group routines. First is a sad clown dance entitled “No Laughing Matter” with Brynn, Kalani, Mackenzie and Sarah. The other one is “Moulin Rouge” with Kendall, Nia, JoJo and Mackenzie. Since there are two groups, Abby is going to have a guest choreographer to help her with “Moulin Rouge.” Jill sees it unfair again.
While the girls are rehearsing, somebody calls Abby. Blake Morris is the caller’s name. He is the father-manager of 11-year-old YouTube singer MattyB. The girls stop on what they are doing because they get excited with the name. Abby goes to the dance moms to give the exciting news. She explains that a MattyB music video will be done with the ALDC girls.
The dance moms are talking while the rehearsals continue. Melissa says that Mackenzie cannot be in the music video because of another music producer. She says it is okay because she really wants to keep her girl’s existing recording company. Other dance moms are appalled because MattyB has a total of billion views on YouTube. Melissa insists that Abby has the last say. She finds it unfair if the guests’ kids will be given the opportunity. Ashlee is horrified. Holly agrees with Melissa. Jill emphasizes that MattyB’s father called because of ALDC, not for a specific girl.
MattyB’s staff enter the studio to explain the process. The director says that one girl will be chosen as the lead and the vocal. He wants someone who is really youthful and childlike. The manager announces that it will be a great opportunity for the girls like Maddie’s recent successes. It is time for the auditions. Later on, Mackenzie and JoJo are placed on both sides of a young boy while dancing. After all the girls exited the room, the staff concludes that it is either Mackenzie or JoJo.
It is time for the video shoot. Jill is appalled that Melissa brought Maddie. MattyB announces that Mackenzie gets the lead role. However, JoJo still gets to have some special parts for her. While the dance moms are resting outside, Melissa calls Abby. She tells her that Mackenzie got the lead. Abby insists that she must assure first that Mackenzie has a top billing credit. She makes it clear to not sign anything yet. Melissa says that she already signed it. Abby is horrified.
Abby arrives and demands to talk to the staff. Her defense is that Mackenzie already signed a deal with another recording studio. So, she needs to have a top billing credit. Abby calls Melissa an idiot for signing the contract. MattyB’s father walks away. The dance moms notices Abby’s “stink eye” to Melissa as she passes by. Abby insists that she is the manager.
Melissa and Abby start to talk about it. Melissa says that she has no idea about legal matters. Abby tells her that her move is “stupid.” She decides to pull out all the girls. As she stands up, the dance moms brace themselves for what is to come.
