Dance Moms Season 5 Recap: Cathy Feels Sick with Maddie’s ‘Elastic Heart’

Dance Moms” Season 5 Episode 12 “Abby’s Trash, Cathy’s Treasure” aired on Tuesday, Mar. 24, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on Lifetime. The episode kicks off with Abby Lee Miller hugging Maddie Ziegler because of her new music video with Sia entitled “Elastic Heart.” Read on to know what Maddie has to say.

Maddie enthusiastically tells everybody about what to expect on the video. Suddenly, Kira Girard reads on social media that Cathy Nesbitt-Stein from Candy Apples will recruit new kids for her team. Jill Vertes adds fuel to the fire when she told Abby that two of the new dancers namely Tessa and Haley were their auditionees in the past.

Abby is cool about the news. She proceeds to introduce the week’s performance pyramid. Kendall Vertes and Nia Frazier are at the bottom for not placing in the top five. JoJo Siwa , Mackenzie Ziegler and Kalani Hilliker are at the middle part for doing a great job yet not winning. It is a no-brainer that Maddie takes the top spot.

After the pyramid, Abby talks about the upcoming competition called Energy National. She explains that they will make duos to honor Maddie’s duet with Shia LaBeouf. Maddie and Kalani will dance to “Walking Through the Storm,” JoJo and Kendall to a Freaky Friday-inspired dance and Nia and Mackenzie to “The Little That Lived Down the Lane” inspired by a horror film about a child molester. Abby pressures the girls because they are returning to Los Angeles after a couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, at Cathy’s studio, Chehon is welcomed as their guest choreographer. Tick tock, Abby, because Chehon was a “So You Think You Can Dance” winner. Will they win because of him? Find out later!

Abby continues to explain that the group routine will be inspired by Clue. The Moms notice that it is not a lyrical piece.

Back to the Candy Apples’s studio, Cathy suddenly receives a call from TMZ. She is asked for an opinion on Maddie’s new music video. She exclaims that she almost vomited and insists that it is not art.

Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) is still busy and focused with the rehearsals. Abby is pretty confident with Mackenzie-Nia duo because of their successful “Amber Alert” routine last year.

Outside, Holly is preoccupied while calling Aubrey O’Day that they are returning to LA. The other Moms think it is bad news all over again. Their talk leads to Sia’s music video. Melissa Ziegler already knows about Cathy’s message to TMZ. On the other hand, Jill shares about Sia apologizing about the video’s theme. Although Melissa does not want to hear it, Jill keeps on pushing the news.

When a reporter from Entertainment Tonight showed up to interview Abby and Maddie, Jill gets annoyed. She already perceives another loss for ALDC.

Before the competition, a commotion starts when Abby hugged some Moms from Candy Apples. Cathy yells at Abby while the latter tells her to stop swearing in front of the kids.

While the performances continue on stage, Melissa overhears a Candy Apples mom that Maddie’s mother should be embarrassed to let her child dance with an adult man. ALDC moms hear it, and Kira screams to the crowd to support Maddie. The audience gives a round of applause.

For the awards, Kendall-JoJo duo only receives third place while Mackenzie-Nia gets second. As expected, Maddie-Kalani wins first place. Cathy is clearly appalled when Candy Apples only placed third. In the end, ALDC wins the group competition. Cathy throws another tantrum, claiming that some conspiracy is going on. She suddenly breaks down crying.
