Blue-eyed Daniel Craig could very well reprise his role as James Bond in the next film based on the British Secret Service agent. With a grand total of four films as Bond, Craig is the second-longest serving actor to play the role just behind Roger Moore.
The question about who will play the next 007 is currently a hot topic in Hollywood at the moment. With Craig taking on the role since 2006, the idea of the next Bond was certainly not in anyone’s mind for a decade.
Now that Craig has essentially starred in his fair share of films as far as actors who played the role are concerned, a new face is being considered. But this is starting to become a dilemma as many actors deemed “fit” to play the role still remained unconfirmed as the official replacement.
People speculated between many actors, including the Divergent series’ Theo James and Tom Hiddleston, best known for playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There has also been talk about introducing the first black James Bond with Idris Elba being considered for the role.
There has even a talk of a so-called “Jane Bond” in the next film. Exactly as it sounds, the idea is to introduce Bond as a woman. While the idea is as outrageous as it is impossible to consider, it does reveal how the search for a new James Bond is already taking its toll on Hollywood speculators.
Daniel Craig Offered A King’s Ransom To Reprise James Bond Role
Despite the infinite speculations made by insiders and fans alike, it’s not yet confirmed if Craig is indeed stepping down from the role. And now, it appears that the studio has convinced the 49-year old actor to remain for one more film.
Page Six recently received a report from an anonymous source that Craig will play the role of 007. This being the case, the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.
According to the source, Barbara Broccoli has convinced Craig to star in the upcoming Bond film. Broccoli, who is the producer of the spy franchise reportedly “persuaded” the actor to stay, although a deal is yet to be signed.
According to Cinemablend, the only concrete thing that can be gleaned from the report is that should Craig return as Bond, we won’t be having the same conversation within the next few years. By that time, it’s sure as hell that he is done with the Bond role and will probably work to distance himself from it because let’s face it, no actor wants to be trapped in a role.
In terms of likelihood, though, Craig reprising his role is not going to happen. His first role as 007 in Casino Royale back in 2006 was met with criticism. While he has proven the critics wrong by starring as the spy in four films, the fact that they did not see him as Bond material in the first place seems to be the reason why the studio is clamoring to find a replacement, and they probably will.
The actors who played Bond seem to have an air of charisma, which Craig did not have. His brooding character makes him more appropriate to play Bruce Wayne rather than Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
A Replacement For Daniel Craig On The Horizon
With essentially every British or British-looking actor, and actress, has been considered for the role, a replacement is probably on the horizon. And even if Craig does reprise his role, does it really matter who plays 007? Fans watch Bond films for the intrigue, the action, and of course, Q’s accessories. The actor sure affects our opinions of the film, but that’s hardly the factor by which we judge a Bond film.
