Danny Boyle Returns To ‘Trainspotting’ with Sequel ‘Porno;’ Original Cast All Returning

Danny Boyle wants to ‘choose heroin’ again, with the announcement that his next film will “Trainspotting 2,” calling the script for the sequel fantastic. Read on to find out more.

Danny Boyle was at the Telluride film-festival promoting his new Steve Jobs biopic with Michael Fassbender, when he announced his decision to do the “Trainspotting” sequel. Speaking with Deadline, Boyle has confirmed that the main cast of the movie is returning.

The “Trainspotting” sequel will be based on Irvine Welsh’s sequel to the original book. It is called “Porno” and it follows our heroes (at the very loosest definition of the term) ten years after their misadventures in “Trainspotting,” and features among other things, “Sick Boy” making a porn film, Renton in Amsterdam, and a bulimic masseuse moonlighting as a prostitute.

John Hodge, writer for the original “Trainspotting” movie has penned the script, which Danny Boyle called “terrific” in his interview.

The four main stars Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle are all coming back barring scheduling problems. Of which there are substantial, since the coked-out Johnny Lee Miller, AKA ‘Simon “Sick Boy”’ is currently Sherlock Holmes in CBS’s “Elementary.” While Robert Carlyle AKA “Begbie” has a recurring role in ABC’s “Once Upon A Time.” But hopefully, the word of a trainspotting sequel will be enough to lure the two out.

It has now been twenty years from 1996’s pitch-black comedy about heroin-addiction “Trainspotting,” which would go on to become one of the biggest cult movies of all time, with perhaps the most memorable opening monologue in the history of movies.
