The episode picked up from where it left off. Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), James Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore) and Leland Owlsley (Bob Gunton) rushing Vanessa Marianna (Ayelet Zurer) to the hospital after she and several other guests had been poisoned at his benefit.
Meanwhile, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) paid a visit to Matthew “Matt” Murdock (Charlie Cox), whoo asked about Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson). He told her that whatever had happened to him had been his fault. After learning that she had talked to Fisk’s mother, who had told her the truth about her son, and that she was alive despite the fact that all the reports had said that she was dead, Matt told her to be more careful and to tell the story to Foggy at the office.
Elsewhere, Foggy woke up in bed beside his ex-girlfriend, Marcy Stahl and decided not to answer any of Karen’s calls.
Back at the hospital, they learned that the three others who had been poisoned had died. Wesley instructed Leland to talk to Madame Gao (Wai Ching Ho) to see if she was with them or was the one who had poisoned them at the benefit. After discovering that Vanessa had made it but was still recovering, Fisk told Wesley to arrange for Vanessa to taken away far from him so that she would be safe. He then asked not to be disturbed, which annoyed Leland, who instead told Wesley that Madame Gao was on their side.
Back at Matt’s apartment, Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) patched Matt up. She told him that he should rest, and get some body armor. She then told him that she was going to go away from the city for a while. She also told him that she believes that just as he believed that the city needed him, she believed that the city had made him into what he was today.
Meanwhile, Karen met up with Ben Urich (Vondie Curtis-Hall). He was still mad at her for tricking him to go to the nursing home where Fisk’s mother stayed at. He then told her what happened at the benefit.
Matt then went to church again. He asked Father Lantom (Peter McRobbie) why it seemed like there was a devil inside of him trying to claw his way out. Father Lantom told him then that he believed that maybe his better inner angels inside of him were trying to come out. He told him that maybe the reason why the devil existed was to be feared, so that people would be forced to walk the path of righteousness.
Afterwards, he beat up Turk Barrett (Rob Morgan). He led him to Melvin Potter’s (Matt Gerald) studio. After the two fought, Matt asked him to create a symbol for him using the same lightweight body armor that Fisk used.
At the hospital, Fisk informed Wesley that his mother had called, and when Wesley called her back, he became surprised at what he heard. He then asked for their driver’s keys and gun and went to take care of something.
Meanwhile, Karen told Foggy, whom she found at Josie’s, to patch things up with Matt, and called Ben to thank him for always being there for her. Ben then found an old photo, which, when enhanced, showed that one apartment in a building had a “Vote Bill Fisk” sign.
Karen was then kidnapped before entering her apartment and later woke up, groggy and drugged. Wesley then placed his piece on the table. He told her that her new job was to convince everyone she had convinced that there was something fishy going on with Fisk. If not, they would hurt Ben, Foggy and Matt before they finally killed her. However, as Wesley got distracted by Fisk calling his phone, Karen took advantage of it and got the gun. He then stood up, but before he could do anything else, she emptied its barrel into him. She then took the gun and fled.
